ADP Mobile Solutions

Since my company only uses the payroll features from ADP, I can only speak to those. I haven't had any issues with viewing pay statements and breakdowns, and I really like how there's a feature to hide the numbers when viewing your pay information, in case you don't want others near your screen seeing that information. This being said, I don't think it makes sense for a company to have different software for payroll, PTO, etc, which is what our company currently does. Since ADP allows you to have multiple features on this platform, I would recommend it for consolidating all "HR Type" features like this in one place.

QuickBooks Enterprise

QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions would be great for a company that is buying products and just reselling them as-is. It is great at keeping track of quantities remaining from previous purchases and time periods, adding new inventory purchased, and subtracting inventory sold. It would also work well for a company that purchased materials to manufacture items for stock, and then sold those stock items. QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions does not work very well for manufacturing of one-off or custom products as each item has to be "built", whether it is 1 item or 100 items. It also does not have an easy way to account for scrap or materials damaged in the manufacturing process.

Pros

  • Easy to use mobile app
  • Ability to view pay statements
  • Ability to view and download necessary pay and tax documents
No photo available
  • Reports can be modified and filtered to provide specific information. They can also be exported into Excel for further formatting and filtering.
  • It is fairly user friendly, with a flowchart on the home page to show how estimates turn into orders and then invoices, among other business functions. It is quite forgiving with input errors, allowing one to access already saved data (orders, invoices, etc.) and change it without a lengthy process of backing out previous info and re-entering new info.
  • The toolbar at the top of the screen can be customized to include the functions that one uses most, avoiding the process of selecting a tab and scrolling down to the needed option. One can also personalize how the tab/enter buttons function, as well as date formatting, decimal points, and default scripts for invoices, statements, purchase orders, etc. One can also integrate their established email address to be used through QuickBooks.

Cons

  • The password requirements are onerous.
  • It takes awhile for the UI to load.
  • I'd like to see favorites added to the selection bar. There are normally only one or two items I need to find quickly but there are several click-throughs.

  • It would be nice to be able to have more than one A/R and/or A/P account on a journal entry.
  • The budget piece is not strong. You can't create department budgets and have them roll into a company-wide budget. So making changes to the budget is a tedious process.
  • As far as the budget piece, you also can't create multiple what-if scenarios, which is very limiting, so we end up doing a lot of the budgeting process in Excel.
  • We don't know of a way to create allocation formulas in QuickBooks and be able to select applicable ones when posting transactions.

We've been using QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions from when the business started, 11 years ago. I don't see us changing programs any time soon as it is working pretty well for us now. It would be extremely time consuming to start from scratch with a new accounting or inventory management program.

QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions functions well when used in a straightforward manner. However, if you want to get very specific information from the reports, it takes some out of the box thinking. One redeeming factor is that the reports can be exported into Excel and then formatted as needed.

QB is a good and reliable system. We probably should have explore the other modules rather that jump in to the conclusion that we needed a new ERP.

It is a very easy system to learn, so with the help it was even easier. QB is a good solid system, but it lacks some of the complexity other systems have. with QB you need to get additional modules to get the same functionality that other systems offer standard

easy to learn system, specially with some kind of support. Just like with any other system, things get lot easier if you have guidance to lead you in your search for answers. having said that, QB is very easy to use and very easy to teach. you wont spend much time memorizing where to click.

Alternatives Considered

Both software do the same types of things. I think either is a good choice, I would just recommend you consolidate all your processes onto one software. Having multiple software can be tedious and confusing for employees.

I have not really evaluated a lot of different products. I have used Sage software in the past but was not totally pleased with its limitations. I am not fond of any of the online software programs as I have never found one that full fits my client needs, but I look at them periodically to see how much they have improved

It is so moldable, easy to use, and easy to train on. Clients love it, its always improving, and there is always something to learn. Until someone else can compete with that, I will keep using QuickBooks and recommending QuickBooks everywhere that it makes sense. And so far, that happens to be almost everywhere.

It is not a fair rating because we did not invest in different modules to accommodate for business grow and complexity expansion.

Return on Investment

  • Ability to see pay breakdown
  • Ease of access for forms
  • Ability to privately view pay statements if you're in public (ex. blur out numbers)
  • Easy to use mobile application
  • Frequent errors when using app, crashes/glitches at times

  • Increased efficiency due to a change in our controller staff - she was easily able to pick up QuickBooks even though she never had any prior experience.
  • Good solution for small businesses, but limitations to growth and expansion beyond basic capabilities.
  • Very affordable platform for our business needs with strong resources and training/education opportunities.
