ADP RUN

ADP RUN seems to be very well suited towards smaller businesses. The site is simple to use and has plenty of features for handling payroll and basic HR functions. I think the system would be a bit cumbersome to use with a larger number of employees (25+), unless you opted to use their time and attendance program.

It is well suited for a small company of maybe 300-400. It is less appropriate for companies in areas where a transit and parking benefit is a must.

Pros

  • The key strength of ADP's Run is the simplicity of their web portal. Site navigation is easy thanks to large Icons and clearly described links. Every feature seems to be accessible within 2 to 3 clicks.
  • ADP's support is very helpful. I have called in a few times and the wait is never long to reach a support rep. The support has been able to address any issues I've had in a timely manner and will stay on the line to walk through steps until I am comfortable with them.
  • The sales reps are great. They did a great job of walking through the features and comparing them to my current provider. They came onsite to help with the transition to ADP, and even came to walk us through the first couple payrolls to make sure all the steps were understood.

Cons

  • One feature that would be useful is a recall option when submitting payroll. An option to redo a payroll within 30 minutes of submitting would be a useful feature that would cut back on the chances of making a mistake.

  • Great at selling their product but not keeping their promises.
  • Too many glitches and they always advise it will be updated/corrected on their next "quarterly update".
  • They can't administer QTB plans (parking and transit) which is an essential benefit plan offered to companies. They didn't officially come out with this news until after we had implemented and launched the program. During implementation, they made it appear like it would work.

Alternatives Considered

Compared to Paycor, ADP's web portal is much easier to navigate and use which has made running payroll easier. While the overall features are similar, ADP has more options such as integrating an HR support feature and linking to a 401k that make it more flexible. I have also found that generating reports is much easier in ADP's site, especially since it auto generates some key reports as soon as payroll is run.

I thought it would be a good facelift and upgrade to BeneTrac which was outdated and hadn't done anything to change the look and feel of their platform. Only to find out Benetrac is more adaptable to manual changes and needs.

  • Absolute positive ROI for RUN - it has freed me up to be able to concentrate on the business and allows me to feel confident and worry free that our payrolls will be processed timely and taxes will be paid.

  • It was a negative impact because we launched the program during open enrollment only to revert back to the old platform, BeneTrac, 3 months later.
  • Bad impression on the benefits team to implement a program that didn't deliver.
