SmartCompliance is extremely helpful for business tax filing and reporting - contracting with ADP has allowed us as an organization to focus energies on other functional areas instead of worrying about recruiting or retaining employees with strong tax backgrounds who can be ahead of the game on any compliance changes. ADP's team is always well informed and stays abreast of changes within the codes that might slip through the cracks with independent research. For smaller businesses with lower employee counts, the Aline pay cards or Garnishment maintenance might not be as necessary from a compliance or process improvement standpoint.

QuickBooks Enterprise

You'll want to go with this type of ERP solution if you're running a business with some level of complexity. For example, a manufacturing company with more than 50 employees and significant inventory tracking needs would be a good candidate for QuickBooks Enterprise. Additionally, a scenario where there are going to be a lot of accounting users would necessitate a product such as QuickBooks Enterprise rather than the basic QuickBooks desktop products. If you're starting out, or your business is in an earlier stage of development, you won't necessarily want to start out with Enterprise initially. If you use more of a "beginner" type accounting product (such as one of the other QuickBooks desktop products), you can always upgrade your data file later should you eventually use Enterprise.

Pros

  • SmartCompliance is exceptionally user friendly, it does not require a lot of technical skill or training to navigate and leverage the site.
  • ADP's client support staff is some of the best I've worked with over my career. They are generally very responsive and quick to identify and resolve client issues and concerns.
  • They have moved to a point where the majority of the client services offered are all on one unified site - rather than having to navigate to multiple sites to perform multiple functions

  • Inventory tracking: Lower end accounting products are much weaker in this regard and QuickBooks Enterprise is built with this functionality.
  • Reports: Much more robust reporting functionality than lower end accounting systems. Ability to mine data for better business decision making.
  • Number of users: QuickBooks Enterprise is designed for more concurrent users in an accounting department with simultaneous processes going on.

  • The transition to ADP could have been smoother.
  • Our initial setup was not as efficient as it could have been.
  • I was left out of important communications in the beginning.

  • Not Cloud Based: In order to use QuickBooks Enterprise as a cloud based type product one needs to pay for hosting and have the product/data hosted which will run into extra expense. Additionally, this workaround is not a true cloud solution.
  • Operating System Compatibility: When upgrading operating systems on user workstations, more problems are prone to occur. There is sometimes a disconnect between Microsoft and Intuit in compatibility.
  • Expensive Upgrades: This is not the type of accounting product that you can easily use for years without upgrading. Thus, one needs to build this into their operating budget.

It is a very easy system to learn, so with the help it was even easier. QB is a good solid system, but it lacks some of the complexity other systems have. with QB you need to get additional modules to get the same functionality that other systems offer standard

easy to learn system, specially with some kind of support. Just like with any other system, things get lot easier if you have guidance to lead you in your search for answers. having said that, QB is very easy to use and very easy to teach. you wont spend much time memorizing where to click.

I have not really evaluated a lot of different products. I have used Sage software in the past but was not totally pleased with its limitations. I am not fond of any of the online software programs as I have never found one that full fits my client needs, but I look at them periodically to see how much they have improved
