ADP SmartCompliance

ADP SmartCompliance is a great resource for users of the ADP suite of products. I don't have any real negatives. I think it's one of the best third party resources that my company uses, and I've seen a number of them. Also, the continuous improvement of the website and it's offerings keeps me coming back to see what else I can do on the site. I've used SmartCompliance since it's creation, and other ADP resources prior to SmartCompliance and I am thoroughly sold on it.

I have had the most excellent assistance and advisement from my client services representatives and always receive excellent help even when my own representative is unavailable. It is really simple to onboard new employees. It isn't the most well suited to urgent HR situations. If you need someone to come up with a net check amount or help with a separation agreement or a volatile employee, it's not always possible to get help right away. Which is totally understandable, but also sometimes problematic, since I think we depend on TriNet for HR advisement and do not have an experienced person in-house. Sometimes I get questions from people who are still in the hiring process about the benefit packages that would be available to them if they accept our offer. There are not many resources to provide to candidates who want to see their benefit options if they are not yet an active employee with the open enrollment module

  • SmartCompliance is exceptionally user friendly, it does not require a lot of technical skill or training to navigate and leverage the site.
  • ADP's client support staff is some of the best I've worked with over my career. They are generally very responsive and quick to identify and resolve client issues and concerns.
  • They have moved to a point where the majority of the client services offered are all on one unified site - rather than having to navigate to multiple sites to perform multiple functions

Cons

ADP SmartCompliance

  • Some of the SmartCompliance modules (i.e. Aline) are fairly new, thus can be a little buggy in the initial usage. Items like historical data from the prior PAT system are slow to move over, meaning multiple log ins are still needed to access history
  • Customer Service support is great, but sometimes it can be difficult to get Technical Support involved to assist with things like troubleshooting data integration issues or site specifications to build/improve data flow.

  • TriNet is always open to hearing our feedback. One area that we would like to see improved is the overlap of a new hire and a pay cycle closing. We have to remember to make sure that an employee gets paid via a special payroll if they started after a pay cycle has already closed.

Every company is different and it appears HRPassport has minimum custom functionality. Our paid time off balances are always wrong on your site as our year end of Dec 31, 2018 does not match our payroll periods. So any paid time off that someone uses the last week of the year is from that current year allotment, but it pulls for the following year, which makes both years wrong. They should also have their own time card feature versus using a third party, StatusTime. Also, we would like to have a feature where each department's employees can view each other's time off requests on a calendar, so they know if the days are available before they request time off or can see first hand if the maximum of employees have already requested time off. Otherwise, the product is good. The app is a nice additional.

I think my previous answers should already give a clear understanding of the reason why I give it this rating. Just consider that when we started our business in the US in 2014, we were totally unaware of how HR issues should be managed in that country. Obviously, we got substantial help from our US labor lawyers but TriNet played a substantial role in making the whole process simple and smooth.

Just to clarify: we use similar products here in Italy but you cannot compare them because of the different legislation. We were advised to use TriNet by our labor lawyers when we established our US presence in 2014. Since then, no other similar products have been evaluated: we did not have any reason for considering other options.

  • Our Payroll department has been able to move to a 100% electronic payment requirement in the four states we operate in, eliminating approximately $6,000/semi-monthly for postage, packaging and stop payment fees associated with live check processing. We've also been able to reduce the fraud risk in our 64 buildings by eliminating the need to keep a payroll check book in each for emergencies
  • We have been able to reallocate three head counts from manual tracking and entry of garnishments. The Garnishment Service Center has taken the responsibility of answering and tracking orders, issuing copies to employees and handling general inquiries from agencies and employees from our in-house staff.
