ADP TotalSource

ADP Totalsource is well suited for any size company. It is a functional warehouse of information and is especially handy for an HR department and a great investment. It should eliminate employees coming to you all the time with questions about their pay or other financial questions. It is also great if you are someone that switches from one company to another often because it will store all of your information for you. If you do not know about the privacy setting, that could be an issue because then others could view your personal financial information. I would not recommend purchasing if your company is incredibly small depending on how profitable your company and what industry you are in.

Ceridian Dayforce HCM

Dayforce is great if you have a varied workforce that requires complicated configuration, like multi-state jurisdictions with different labor laws applicable to each location. Just be prepared to designate an individual at your company to become a configuration expert in case anything needs updating. Dayforce is less great if you use only one aspect of the program. As a whole, when you buy the whole enchilada and do all your HCM through Dayforce, the integration makes the minor annoyances worth it. If you are only looking to replace HR data, only time tracking, or only payroll processing, this is probably not the system for you. I'd go all or nothing.

Pros

  • It does a great job of keeping track of all your pay at various other jobs that also use ADP TotalSource. You can easily log in and verify any information that you might need to check on.
  • The privacy feature is really great so that only you can see documents with financial information on them.
  • The app is also really handy and easily accessible. You can pull up anything in a pinch if you don't have access to your work computer at the same time that you need to look up something.

  • Dayforce has allowed our time management, payroll, and HR to be in one system. This is a great time saver and prevents us from having to configure other systems to 'talk to each other'.
  • The workflows in Dayforce have allowed us to set up many paperless processes, saving time and reducing the risk of misplacing a paper transaction. Changes made in Dayforce are easily accessible, transactions can be found in just a few quick clicks.
  • The setup of Benefits allows us to easily see who is eligible based on the qualifiers within the plans.

Cons

  • They failed to file wages with the state for over 1 and 1/2 years
  • They classified 401k contributions as after tax and then had to amend form W-2 on multiple employees
  • They represented that short-term disability insurance was available during the proposal process, and after signing, side that it was in fact, not available, or a true bait and switch.
  • Their platform is very outdated and even their consultants cannot maneuver around and create reports.
  • It is very difficult to reach your assigned representative.
  • The executive of their customer service provides all kinds of promises but does not execute on promises
  • Choosing ADP was one of my biggest regrets and I would like to prevent this same experience from happening to any other small business.

  • The customer support is lacking. If needs are highly urgent, then the customer support will respond timely. Other needs that are reported aren’t responded to timely and you don’t have much support to get things addressed.
  • The implementation process of their system is so difficult and cumbersome. So much of the burden of implementation falls on the customer, rather than Ceridian as I expected, and the timeline is rushed, so we were forced to go live without feeling like things were truly ready to go. Having additional communication and better implementation support, along with more time to implement, would have saved us months of headaches down the road.
  • We are a mid-sized business, and Ceridian is focused on enterprise-level customers. While we’re thrilled with the functionality the system has, the support for companies our size is pretty minimal. We felt that we weren’t as important of a client.

Once trained on the basic functions the program is easy to use; as far as training the overall process is very quick as you can follow standardized videos but also the program is intuitive.

We have never experienced a total/unplanned outages that effected our ability to process payroll. However, there are times when the application's speed is significantly effected - and processing a payroll may take up to twice as long as normal.

We haven't noticed any slow-down due to the integration of Dayforce WFM with our Ceridian HPL products (HRIS and Payroll). The new HTML view of the timesheets don't load as quickly as the old Silverlight view - however, we have gotten used to the change.

It is great training, but the times are on EST. we are on PST. Because of this many of our training sessions began at 6am in the morning. That was difficult on my staff.

Overall our implementation was good. We were able to work with a great team to accomplish the implementation with minimal issues. I wish we had spent more time on identifying reporting needs prior to implementation, since that is where we struggled after we went live on the new system. But it went well.

Alternatives Considered

I chose ADP incorrectly concluding that since they are a big player in the PEO market, they must have processes and controls in place, as well as a robust reporting platform. What I experienced with ADP is anything but what they represented and what I believed I was contracting for. Unless you want to irreparably harm your business, choose another PEO rather than ADP. Choose any other than ADP.

It’s been very helpful to our organization to have all over our HR components housed in one application, rather than piecemeal in various other systems. Those separate systems sometimes break the communication bridge that binds the two and disables our ability to do our job efficiently. This single application helps us to ensure all data is available to us at all times. It also assists us to be most efficient in that we don’t have to reenter data in various applications.

Overall, we are extremely happy with the Dayforce WFM module. Our biggest pain point is concerning the twice annual software upgrades - which is the only reason I haven't rated them as a '10'. Because every customer is configured differently, the upgrades can sometimes have adverse effects on our current configured policies/rules. And although they roll-out the upgraded version in a test environment several weeks before go-live, not all testing is accurate in that environment. Some issues do not present themselves until you are working with live punches.

  • ADP Total Source offers TERRIBLE REPORTING
  • ADP Total Source represents that they offer state of the art reporting. Please don't believe their claims. If you do, buyer beware.
  • ADP Total Source contracts to offer certain services and then does not fulfill promises. Since they are such a large company, they dare you to file a lawsuit against them. Since they are so big, you have very little recourse. Your business will suffer from using ADP as a co-employment partners.
  • ADP failed to complete required state reporting and they offered no explanation, just an amended filing.
