ADP TotalSource

ADP TotalSource is my company's PEO. Being an HR department of one, the support I received from the was worth its weight in gold. They have so many resources already in place that I was able to make use of instead of researching and creating myself. One part of having them as a PEO that I wasn't a fan of, was the limitations we had in choosing our benefit carriers. They had contracts with two health carriers to choose from. So if we weren't happy with rates, there was only so much room to negotiate, at the carriers knew that.

SuccessFactors Employee Central

It captures pretty much all employee information that you need. The org chart feature is a great feature. The employee self service and manager self service is good. It integrates well with other modules as well as third party applications (like our external attendance and leave management software), role based permissions.

Pros

  • The prebuilt reports were excellent
  • TotalSource came with the Employee Service Center support - the best part of TS
  • The software integrated with our time keeping system which made payroll a little easier

Cons

  • While the prebuilt reports were great, I would have to contact TS in order to get a custom report. This only happened a few times because like I said, they had a variety of prebuilt reports that fit my needs
  • iReports was implemented and it became more difficult to find employee paystubs and find YTD pay

  • Level of customization is poor (especially for customers using using SAP on-premises product)
  • In the absence of platform, building complex reports, interfacing with downstream systems and building custom processes is just too much to expect from EC as yet.
  • Thumbs down to time-off management (except for application for requesting time off)

Alternatives Considered

Paychex is probably the worst system I have used. It's not intuitive at all and is lacking in so many key areas of a good HRIS. I think UltiPro is a system that stacks up against ADP TotalSource the best. But again, ADP TotalSource will be what I choose because of their customer service for not just me but our employees. Their support is second to none!

Successfactors has a comprehensive suite of integrated products. JAM is used extensively by us for internal communication and collaboration. It integrates well into our third party software, quarterly releases help with incremental changes, decent support, after sales support from SAP could be better, All and all I personally feel that it is a good robust HCM

Return on Investment

  • It has helped us to keep track of various financial information for employees and this has helped our HR department.
  • We were trying to find a system that was more user-friendly and many people are able to use this pretty easily.
  • We found more cost effective methods to do absence management and goal setting because this system was too expensive and cumbersome for us.

  • I feel it's certainly had a positive ROI. No need for multiple systems with multiple duplicate data input.
  • Streamlines and tracks the entire employment journey from hiring, data maintenance, performance tracking, job transitions, pay, etc.
