I think it all depends on what the client is looking for. I mean we have been using Vantage for the last 6 years and it has come a long way from where it started. The nice thing is we have been able to grow with it and configure things to how we need them to be for our business. So each business needs are going to be different and ADP Vantage can keep up with those needs.

Pros

  • ADP Vantage HCM is nicely laid out so it is user friendly. It gives you the look and feel of what other popular apps might look like so there is a familiarity there.
  • ADP Vantage HCM being a one stop shop, makes it nice to only have to keep track of one log in and I have all of the information I need at my fingertips.
  • ADP Vantage HCM is always evolving and while at times this can be a challenge I find it to be a strength that they are always trying to improve the product.

  • Implementation - You work one on one with a specialist to help build and customize each module. They are patient, supportive, and very helpful.
  • Customization - There were few (if any) things I asked for that couldn't be customized. They really do work with you to make the system work for you.
  • Support - If/when an issue arises, you are met with immediate response and rectification. Their dedication to customer service is great.

Cons

  • Although Time and Payroll are integrated, it's not integrated enough. The data sometimes doesn't "flow over" to Time and we have to call ADP to have them push it through. When you are on an employee's record in Payroll, you can go to any other part of there profile such as Tax Withholding, Deductions, etc...which is great, but if you want to go to their timecard, you have to go into Time and do another search to find the employee then open the timecard.
  • The audit trail in the system needs to be enhanced. Currently you can run a report to get an audit trail on user activity, but not all screens are auditable. If I need to know who made a change to the Time Information screen, and when the change was made...I am out of luck.
  • Some records should not allow backdating the effective date. This causes us problems with data validity. For example, Direct Deposit, you can't change history so this screen should never allow you to enter an effective date of a closed pay period that already was paid.
  • The Time Off Request feature has lots of room for improvement. One of the biggest issues we have is that a manager will Approve a request then later realize they need to Refuse it, or the employee needs to Retract it. The system gives you the option to open the Approved request then you can Retract or Refuse it...but that action does nothing. Common sense would tell you it removes the PTO day, but it doesn't. To remove a prior Approved PTO day you have to go to a completely different area, which the average user would never find.
  • Our employees earn an annual amount of PTO based on their hire year. The system should not allow them to use more PTO than what they earn for the year, but this is not an option. We can easily put a limit on the balance, but not on the amount used.
  • Garnishment module of Vantage is not user friendly, very difficult to use. They do have a WGPS service you can purchase, but if you want to do garnishments in house without paying extra, its a struggle.

  • The Time module could improve greatly. That is the one area that frustrates me the most. The system lags horribly on busy days . They could also add some more customizable features such as the abiliy to manipulate shift differentials/shift rules a bit more to the customer's liking.

Nothing against Ascentis, but we have outgrown this system far faster than anticipated. Our company has nearly doubled in size from when we first implemented. It has been an excellent starter HRIS but we just need to add additional functionality.Some of the features we are looking for is ability to pull data and build reports. Ascentis really lags in that category. Also looking to add additional functionality such as performance management and payroll - Ascentis offers these, but not in a fully integrated fashion that would really help.

I have used numerous other systems and Ascentis is by FAR the best system I've ever used. I love its ability to customize to your organization's needs!! Would highly recommend to anyone!

First, to clarify our "in-person" training was done mainly through Web-X meetings and conference calls. It was the closest thing we got to as far as an "in-person" training for this software. However, for the large majority of it, this type of training worked out well. We were able to share our screens and the trainer was able to share his/her screen. We could follow along with what we were doing in our database in real time and see how different functions worked and how manipulating our information could produce different results. It was also nice in that it provided for real-time results if something hadn't been coded correctly or we were having issues as to why something wasn't working the way we thought it should be. However, it did have some downsides in that we often had to rely on a conference phone and that made it difficult to hear people on both sides. Also, sometimes the trainers had internet difficulties when working from home and that caused issues with the WebX meetings.

A lot of set ups vary from company to company so parts of our training we found it difficult to relate it to our processes. They have TONS of training modules available and a streamlined process for what you should complete and when. Would have been helpful to have onsite training for how much one pays for the system.

Ascentis HR has a number of online training videos to watch on a number of different topics. I gave it a lower rating because there is not much interactivity with the videos and it seems to cater to really only one or two learning styles. Plus, one has to be pretty motivated to go to a separate area to access the videos and then pull up a specific one to watch it and then learn. From my experience, people know that they are there, many just don't take the time and effort to go find them and actually watch them - especially since the username and password are different from their normal username and password.

Don't skip steps. The customer support for Ascentis HR left it up to us how far we wanted to go with implementation of benefits for example. I was very glad that I elected to go into the detail implementation that I did rather than just doing the basics and waiting until later to complete the process.

Alternatives Considered

I have used Certipay previously. I didn't see it in the list of options to choose from. Certipay had some really great reporting features and we were able to process payroll in three days instead of two but I would say ADP has been able to grow with us and is meeting most needs.

Over less clunky to applications that I used in the past, very user-friendly and easy to manage a team with a dashboard.

Return on Investment

  • It has definitely had a positive impact. We are able to use the data in ADP for making decisions. Using previous products the data was too hard to get to or it was not clear what you were getting, but with ADP Vantage it's clean and simple to extract any data needed.
  • We have saved time by having a system that runs smoothly and is easy to use. Practitioners no longer spend time manually entering timecards or fixing employee records.
  • We are able to verify the data prior to running payroll which reduces errors.
