ADP Workforce Now

With the overall functionality of ADP Workforce Now, I cannot imagine an operation that would not be able to successfully utilize the product. Perhaps a company with no employees, and no payroll or benefits. ADP Workforce Now is a great product with full functionality! We tried other payroll companies before we knew ADP had Workforce Now. We quickly returned to ADP once we learned of the Workforce Now product, due to the confidence we had in ADP.

If you are handling a large client list, and are selling services, it is dead easy. If you are managing/selling a physical inventory, it seems like it has great options to do that quite well (disclaimer, I do not use those functions, but I have paid attention as that functionality was built into the software). If you want to link your bank account to a bookkeeping platform, this is not the software for you (at least so far).

Pros

  • ADP Workforce Now is well ahead of their competitors in the payroll department. It is possible to track for job costing, and they are accurate. In the 15 years I have used ADP we have never seen a payroll error on their end.
  • ADP Workforce Now does a great job of timekeeping, and offers many options making it very flexible for meeting the needs of any type of company.
  • The most important strength ADP Workforce Now offers is the payroll related tax reporting and payment of payroll related taxes. There has never been a time we have had to worry about a report not being filed, or the funds not being submitted in a timely manner. If there has ever been a question, ADP has promptly taken care of the response and provided accurate documentation to all parties involved.

  • AccountEdge is great for running reports. It allows you to look up information in numerous ways. I like the fact that the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss reports are interactive so in the screen view mode (as opposed to the printed report) you can easily drill down into accounts and transactions.
  • AccountEdge is also good at creating invoices and statements. Check printing and modifying check layout.
  • The software is quite easy to install and get up and running. The company provides a lot of information on their site, and there is a generous community on their user forum.
  • Reconciliations are fairly easy IF you are not expecting to be able to link your bank accounts to the software. AccountEdge does not do that yet (at least in the US). This is a major flaw in the software--one that I hope is addressed in the very near future.
  • I like that they offer merchant services and point of purchase sales support, but I have no experience in using those capabilities.

Cons

  • Customizing the portal could be easier. It is difficult to understand the instructions that are there.
  • Since the support center was upgraded, it is a little less user friendly, but still has excellent information. Logs you out of the support center too quickly.
  • The tech support for EZlabor and the portal administration is shaky. ADP needs to seriously look at this issue because I can call twice in the same day and get totally different information for the same issue, but the issue is not fixed. This is for tech support, not to be confused with the payroll customer service - they are excellent.
  • Does not work well at all with Internet Explorer, but it does work well with Google Chrome.

  • Linking directly to bank accounts. It seems to be the wave of the future, and it is a big glaring omission from the AccountEdge arsenal of tools.
  • AccountEdge allows printing of government tax forms from within the program, but it is at an additional cost and runs on a separate (but somewhat integrated) ap called Formviewer. This is somewhat clunky to use. I have never been able to get it to print US 1099/96 forms correctly. What's up with that?!
  • Similarly, AccountEdge offers direct filing of US government tax documents through a third party. This is also somewhat opaque and clunky. I bought the service this year and thought it was an "all in" purchase, only to find when I went to file W-2's that there was a per employee charge. Maybe I missed the memo as I was trying to sign up for this service, but I felt taken advantage of when I had to pull trig and pay twice.
  • Finally, it is needlessly opaque and complicated to figure out how to purchase and use the printable forms and government eFiling. It almost feels like a scam. I'm hoping that the new owners fix this, pronto. There is no room in today's world of consumer and business software for hidden costs and incomplete or missing information at the point of purchase and installation.

AccountEdge Pro & Basic is laid out in easy to use centers which compartmentalize a users needs based on departments. Along with that one can set up recurring transactions for things that repeat daily through annually and anything in between. You can set a preference for automatic posting or a user specific reminder to post the action

One of the finer advantages of desktop software, it's always available. AccountEdge doesn't suffer from outages or sluggish internet like web based applications do. It's always there when you power on your device!

ADP has gone back to the designated "team support" module for clients on the newer versions of WFN, and the introduction of "The Bridge" has just added additional resources for problem resolution. It is a blog of current users who can share ideas/solutions in real time. And open case numbers are relatively east to track, and will allow the clients to view status of specific cases in the near future. We currently have no open items!

Rarely do we get support due to it costing money. Sell us on a Monthly service, bump up your CRM and Marketing and AccountEdge could easily be getting $2k/ month from us.

It provided step-by-step procedures on where you would need to log in your hours as well as what you would need to highlight (i.e. regular, overtime, etc.) detailing the type of hours that were worked overall. Either assign more than one specialist to the implementation process, or assign less clients to the implementation specialist. The process requires attention to detail and the ability to test and re-test as well as verify the information. It also requires a lot of back and forth between the client ant the implementation specialist, so they need to be readily available during the whole implementation process.

Alternatives Considered

ADP Workforce Now is NOT ADP's most impressive product (previous versions like ADP Enterprise were far superior) but ADP in general is my preference. Systems I have used:Ceridian- The Payroll Tax function/reporting/filing/amendment process was not as strong as ADP. HR was an afterthought. Workday- I was not impressed with their Payroll module, or Payroll Tax Table/Setup. The HCM module was fantasticADP Enterprise- Very consistent all around. Great support model, massive Reporting capabilities, global ability (used ADP Streamline and maintained headcount for 16 countries with no issues)

I think AccountEdge is superior to Peachtree, which is not a high bar. Its compatibility with MAC OS is good, but I think Xero will be taking much of the Mac based customers as it appears to be a better product.
