For a small employer, with very little turnover and few benefit options, ADP may be too costly for the benefit. There are many affordable payroll providers available for small organizations.For large employers with many benefits options, employees in multiple locations, multiple tax jurisdictions and varied pay types (salary, hourly, commission, etc), ADP is ideal. The extended customer service hours, extensive resources for international pay, and capability for multi state taxation is crucial for an international employer.

Pros

  • The blending of all aspects of HR in ADP makes the system use very fluid. We like that we can have the employee in the system from hire to retire.
  • Allowing employees to have access to their own information is very empowering for them. We like that employees can look at their benefit enrollments, tax information and address along with their payroll history. This is very empowering from an employee standpoint.
  • From a manager standpoint I feel that the system gives the manager great power to make decisions. It can be simple things like workforce planning but also things along the lines of performance evaluations and annual reviews and pay increases.
  • Reporting abilities are AMAZING. You can get a report on basically anything you want in ADP. It can be a challenge to find out how to get that information into a report but the Customer Service help when it comes to custom reporting is great.

  • TalentReef's culture is very impressive. From the CEO on down, the culture is focused and listens to the needs of their clients. During my visit to TalentReef I was extremely impressed with the culture and the TalentReef team. Great product and great people!
  • The service from TalentReef has been top notch! All departments (sales, implementation, marketing, client services) have been fun to work with and we are looking forward to a long partnership.
  • The hiring and onboarding process for the manager is user friendly. This gives the manager the ability to focus on other important tasks because they spend less time on paperwork.

Cons

  • Some of the fields are not intuitive, meaning that when filling out things like phone #s and SSN's, the cursor does not automatically move to the next field once it is completed.
  • The performance management section doesn't fit our needs like we had hoped. We do not use a rating system for reviews and the ADP system is set up to be more advanced than what we are as a company. There's no way that we can change this so far and that's unfortunate.
  • Because ADP is such a huge program it runs a lot on cookies/cache. Because of that we have employees who really struggle with their passwords and the fact that we have them punch in and out on a public computer. Previous users and multiple tries with passwords seems to impact the next person who logs in.

  • If any organization is looking to use TalentReef, I would suggest they make sure they have a project lead. TalentReef is a customizable platform that can be used to help your business. Your business will only get the full use out of the program if someone from within leads the project and communicates what they need from TalentReef. TalentReef can provide the basic needs, but the true value comes when you customize the program.

ADP has gone back to the designated "team support" module for clients on the newer versions of WFN, and the introduction of "The Bridge" has just added additional resources for problem resolution. It is a blog of current users who can share ideas/solutions in real time. And open case numbers are relatively east to track, and will allow the clients to view status of specific cases in the near future. We currently have no open items!

It provided step-by-step procedures on where you would need to log in your hours as well as what you would need to highlight (i.e. regular, overtime, etc.) detailing the type of hours that were worked overall. The handout also provided some pictures of the application

Implementation

Either assign more than one specialist to the implementation process, or assign less clients to the implementation specialist. The process requires attention to detail and the ability to test and re-test as well as verify the information. It also requires a lot of back and forth between the client ant the implementation specialist, so they need to be readily available during the whole implementation process.

Alternatives Considered

Our company used ADP prior to Workforce Now. We tried PayChex for one year 11 years ago, however did not like the functionality and time required to process a payroll. We returned to ADP, then tried Paylocity...that lasted one small payroll, as our payroll clerk was extremely dissatisfied with the product. I was on the telephone with our ADP representative asking what ADP could do to help us remedy our error in moving to paylocity. ADP was great, they explained the ADP Workforce Now product. Helped us return to ADP in time to do a full payroll the following week, and helped to collect the information from Paylocity in time to do the first quarter report in a timely manner. This was a difficult task as Paylocity was less than forthcoming with the reports we needed to provide. The Paylocity support team finally admitted they could not do the what they claimed in the demo. Waste of time and a lot of money. ADP Workforce Now has proven to us they will be there when we need them.

Return on Investment

  • It's given me a lot more time for other things. Payroll takes significantly less time than it used to, managing requisitions is a smooth process so hiring is more transparent and takes less time, and employees are able to view their own information and make changes. In general, I have gotten several hours back a week just from using ADP, which allows me to focus on our strategic goals.

  • The impact in terms of I-9's and E-Verify being completed accurately and quickly is immense. It is tough to put a price or ROI on avoiding any legal complications.
  • All of our corporate locations now "speak the same language" in terms of applicants and new hire on-boarding.
