E-commerce sites with a significant amount of SKUs are good candidates for dynamic retargeting on both the web and Facebook. Having the ability to serve these highly relevant ad creatives without having to create them manually, allows for more time spent customizing your strategy around high-value segments/users, rather than using budget on design hours. It is relatively affordable and we have found it to be a better use of budget than other platforms such as Gemini or Outbrain.

Celtra

Celtra is best suited for rich media, expandable, clickable ad creation. It is valuable in terms of granular reporting as well. However, it is not suitable as a DSP i.e. we really can't make any optimizations through Celtra. It is best used for tracking ads, engagement, and performance metrics especially on mobile devices.

  • Ad placement. Our ads see good engagement where AdRoll places them.
  • Campaign customization. There are many targeting and budget options within the campaign setup.
  • Reporting. AdRoll provides simple, streamlined reporting on impressions, clicks, conversions, spend, etc.
  • Segmentation. It's pretty easy to set up conversion segments and track where we are seeing conversions.

  • The UI itself is easy to navigate and does not lag in terms of load time
  • The search functionality works well as it should

Cons

  • Reporting by geo would be nice.
  • Integration with enterprise-level ESPs. Updating CRM lists is currently inefficient.

Alternatives Considered

I have also worked with another product Perfect Audience. In comparison Adroll out performs them in almost every area. I found that Perfect Audience's UI was hard to navigate and setting up segmentation was especially confusing. Also we use a 3rd party ad-server, which perfect audience will not grant you access to unless you are spending a minimum of $10k a month which is pretty steep for a self-managed platform. I have also worked with Retargeter, which I would recommend it over perfect audience. Their UI is easy to navigate and they don't require minimums to get access to a designated account manager or to use their 3rd party ad serving. The one area they lack in is that they don't have as much social media advertising capabilities

I've really exclusively used this platform for rich media creation. There are other platforms out there for native advertisements such as TripleLift, which I've used in the past, that stacks up pretty well to Celtra. Truthfully we don't use any other ad creation platforms except for Celtra. We have had the option to work with Teads, but ended up not.

Return on Investment

  • AdRoll's incompetent and unresponsive agency support team nearly cost us one of our largest clients.
  • They billed one of our clients $14k of another client's ad spend, resulting in over 30 hours of unbillable time from our end to resolve the issue.
  • AdRoll's reported ROAS was unrealistically inflated compared to other platforms we've used. Perceived ROI was strong, but actual ROI was no better than it was with other platforms.

  • Positive - we have a preferred CPM rate while using Celtra so we are able to save costs there.
  • Positive - no need for outsourcing to other creative agencies so we save more costs
  • Positive - achieving KPIs for our clients ensures more revenue down the road as we establish ourselves as a trustworthy vendor
