AdRoll

AdRoll is great for those who have a strong creative department and want the ability to retarget users who land on their site. AdRoll is also great for prospecting as you can upload your database and AdRoll will prospect lookalikes. For folks who want to track users on social (Facebook and Instagram), AdRoll does wonders. You also have the ability to email prospects which is another great way to build a unique database.

Kenshoo Infinity Suite

Kenshoo Search may not be appropriate if you don't spend much on search engine marketing. It also may not be appropriate if you don't care about tracking conversions and are only concerned with increasing awareness. Or, if you care about tracking conversions but don't expect to capture many, Kenshoo Search may not be necessary.

Pros

  • Customizability of visual ads is easy and efficient. I can make it look the way I want it with the words I need to use.
  • I think the reach not being limited to just Google but rather accross multiple channels is an advantage for AdRoll.
  • Has a great support team that is always ready to help out. They were particularly helpful when we were first trying to set up our first ad campaign.

  • Kenshoo Search bid policies make bid optimization easy and automated. Optimizations are based off of sophisticated algorithms rather than simple bid rules (although Kenshoo Search also offers these). There are many different policies to choose from. Simply choose your type of goal (example: awareness vs. ROI), choose your metric, and assign to your campaign(s) and/or account.
  • Kenshoo Search reporting offers a large selection of reporting templates that are easily exported to Microsoft Excel. In addition, they also offer dashboard reporting with a variety of different widgets that are easily customizable. This feature makes it extremely easy to view metrics that may normally require manual excel work.
  • Kenshoo Search has a Desktop Editor tool similar to Google Adwords Editor that makes bulk optimizations easy and time efficient. This is a huge resource win for me and my team!

Cons

  • The ad sizes are constricting. If you want to have a gif file, you're going to have to use the bare minimum in design.
  • Support is not the best. They are not helpful and has resulted in multiple calls to support.

  • When working with large accounts, such as mine, the tool can be slow. There are a lot of times where the editor tool will freeze, and I'm not sure if I need to reboot or exit the tool. I wish it was a smooth process, much like the AdWords editor tool.
  • Kenshoo support can be slow to respond at times. In the ticketing industry, things are very much based on time of day or time of the week. If the product is down or not functioning during an on-sale or a major event, it can be difficult to get tech support on the phone.
  • Their reporting really doesn't set them a part from the competition. I've used social tools such as Marin and a few others, and they're all pretty similar as far as reporting. If possible, I think you're better off using Google Analytics for reporting, just so you have a common denominator.

It's great to have a product like Kenshoo Social. It has a lot of data and is a great tool to use. Honestly, I think we would have looked somewhere else if we didn't have some much data and time invested into the platform. We had used it across search and social, so we invested a lot of time to get it running smoothly. It is very expensive and we think we could have gone elsewhere to get the same results over time. Once they have your data and the system is running smoothly, it's very difficult to go elsewhere

Really reliable support. Dependable, easy to understand billing. I rarely have any issues, but if I do they are super quick to respond

Alternatives Considered

Again, AdRoll is a great platform for small to mid size businesses, but it doesn't offer every feature one might want. No platform really does. I'm having a lot of customers come to me know either using or wanting to use Criteo and the decision is generally between AdRoll or Criteo. My advice to AdRoll would be to watch Criteo closely and make sure you're at least matching anything they offer

Kenshoo is a more effective and user friendly platform than most competitors. Their tool is more expensive and like I said before, tailored to larger marketing budgets. They set them self apart with the ease of use, the Kenshoo editor, and cross channel functionality. However, the cost and unwillingness to budge on a 12mo contract makes it a little more difficult to not look elsewhere

Return on Investment

  • We have seen an increase in traffic to the key pages we've built campaigns around. Within the first week, we had a 70% increase in traffic.
  • Results can take time to product ROI. We are not at a point where we can begin tracking ROI whereas with other we have been.
Justina Logozzo profile photo
  • ROI is harder to track due to reporting/column & time frame default tech in my humble opinion but generally better results when compared to other products
  • Since the interface is difficult to navigate and paid search is a reactive medium, can produce barriers to change.
