ADTECH

AdTech is best for when you're examining data based on clicks or "likes" – if you're looking to get an idea of what your audience is looking for, you can examine a trend among certain users to determine what drives users and where. This is super helpful for social media managers and web developers. It helps them determine where to drive their UI/UX design

The Trade Desk

All programmatic buying of media online can be done in TheTradeDesk which is why we brought it in-house. The option to go into CTV and podcast environments is of future interest. We are able to launch campaigns faster in other platforms (DataXu, in particular) so if time is critical we do not start here. From a creative approval to meaningful spend in Day 1, TheTradeDesk is outperformed by DataXu.

Pros

  • Adtech follows an algorithm that learns as you use it. It helps process data based on you (or your user) to help determine the best experiences for your client. Pretty neat.
  • Adtech helps streamline work by consolidating workflow. Everybody can be on the same page because everything is accessible to anybody in the organization (security pending, obviously). It helps because the data is available if you need it – and you don't have to fetch anything for anybody.
  • Adtech is best for larger organizations – and the developers who help create the technology understand that. Working with an interface like Adtech is simple, and easy to use. I can't remember what I did before it!

  • Allows you to very optimize and control bidding across pretty much every factor that impacts win rate/delivery.
  • Engaged, hands-on account services team is readily available to provide insights, demonstrations, and quality assurance.
  • Auto-optimization and pacing tools allow for less manual campaign management.

Cons

  • The algorithm is a little...well, dumb, at first. And at times it can stay dumb. We've had users complain of clicking on a click-bait headline for an article, and getting ads that represent something else entirely (off to the side, of course). This doesn't make our clients happy.
  • AdTech can be prone to crash at times – randomly – it's a little unpredictable, you may want to make sure that your database can handle a streamlined workload. Doesn't work well with older tech.
  • Customer service at AdTech is okay, but there's always room for improvement. The support is good, but I don't like being put on hold.

  • Reporting platform leaves a lot to be desired. Requires a lot of trial/error to pull exactly what you need to drive optimizations/learnings.
  • The "stop"/"continue bidding" feature for sitelists, devices, player sizes, etc is awful. When you set something up specifically, you should not have the AUTOMATIC option to serve beyond those parameters.
  • Trafficking video (VAST/VPAID) tags requires a manual insertion of a click URL. Completely redundant ask and is not provided by advertisers as that URL lives within the ad tag. Should not require multiple actions traffic a video tag.
  • Creative approval process (manual) doesn't seem necessary and is not a part of peers' platforms. There is no "pause/deactivate" feature for creative, you remove them or adjust the end date.

Alternatives Considered

Maybe Google Analytics? But even that doesn't offer the same amount of services as AdTech – and I think that's because this is what AdTech does, and Google is spread a little thin. I use several different platforms, but I did have a lot of fun working with Adtech. Bottom line is, if you're a social media manager and you're tired of using other programs, give AdTech a shot

TradeDesk is more extensive like DBM compared to DX. Offers an easier building process with templates and being able to duplicate and share libraries at the partner level.I find TradeDesk clears at higher CPMs than the other platforms. Also tends to perform well for in-view like DBM, DataXu is the worst of the three for in-view performance.TradeDesk has quickly become the #1-#2 partner for us when we extend our reach in a campaign. Knowing we can deliver and perform at scale is something we value highly.

Return on Investment

  • AdTech helps us determine where to steer our audience, and where to project our next campaign.
  • AdTech helps us view data based on user likes, clicks, and analyze trends among our audience.
  • What I don't like about AdTech is that it can sometimes put some people out of a job, as it streamlines work to the point that some on payroll may be...well, unnecessary.

  • Positively impacting ability to delivery in-view KPI campaigns across ad types (display, high impact, preroll).
  • Slightly higher pricing structure requires a bit more conservative bidding in this platform compared to others.
  • The customer service has been top notch. Adding to the confidence in building a lasting partnership. Access to product betas and offering product feedback are of interest to our organization.
