AdvancedPM (formerly ADP AdvancedMD)

AdvancedMD is appropriate for businesses that desire carte blanche access to the data contained in their entity's database. This is a great system for companies that are data/analytics driven. Unfortunately, the main drawback of the system (inability to accurately track deposit dates of payments) is a CRUCIAL FLAW. If a business is interested in a SIMPLE monthly reconciliation to their bank account, you will struggle with AdvancedMD.

Cadence Enterprise Scheduling

Cadence Enterprise Scheduling is particularly useful in a multiple provider, multiple location scenario. It is also quite useful in situations where there are multiple rooms or pieces of equipment that need to be scheduled.

Pros

  • They provide access to their underlying tables via Open Database Connection (ODBC). This streamlines business intelligence processes greatly.
  • The "canned"/"stock" business intelligence tool (Advanced Insight) is very useful.
  • Our dedicated customer support representative (Breah Teed) has exceeded our expectations.

  • Cadence is particularly good at scheduling. It is a simple interface that allows a provider to have a diverse schedule while making sure that patients are seen at the appropriate times.
  • Mistakes are minimized through a series of schedule locks and customizations.
  • Cadence really shines in complex scheduling scenarios allowing a user to schedule a patient with multiple providers while making sure those providers are available.

Cons

  • They do not currently allow users to "lock down" the date field which represents the date that payments were deposited into a bank account. Users are capable of perpetually changing these dates.
  • They are currently building a process which allows users to reconcile payment data to a source document (typically an entity's bank account). We are eagerly awaiting the roll out of this product.
  • We have had issues at times where undeserving patients were sent to collections due to software or human error (no true cause was ever found).

  • I would like to see the process streamlined. Currently there are about 3 screens for the full scheduling process. I think this could be cut to one.
  • I would also like to see a user customizable scheduling screen for different types of appointments.

As stated earlier, it seems to be the best out there, from a built perspective as well as a user application. While some practices feel it to be time consuming (Cadence/Prelude) together others who see the whole integration thru the Epicare and Resolute systems love it. From an IT perspective, while sometimes cumbersome to build, the end results are pleasing and satisfying. We can usually accomplish what we set out to do with the practice vision in mind.

EPIC has been great in their support and communication at all hours. They also openly communicate when an application TS (Technical Support) will be away and who is covering for that person. During standard non working hours - you always know what number and who to call to get resolution to issues that arise at those times

Alternatives Considered

I love that ADP AdvancedMD is web-based and you can use it from anywhere you have internet access. Support is available 8am-8pm EST, so someone is always there to help if needed. I'm excited about the ICD-10 tools they are giving clients to assist with that process. They do regular software updates and listen to client feedback when deciding what updates to perform and the updates are no cost to the clients

Centricity was limited in ability to scale and customize compared to Cadence for our environment. Also the regular updates for Cadence vs. Centricity is where Cadence really shines. Vendor support is also much better with Cadence over Centricity. We also like the robust capability of the reporting module in Cadence over other vendors.

Return on Investment

  • Our ability to integrate with our BI tool via ODBC has had an immense positive effect on our business.
  • Our bank reconciliation has struggled mightily since switching to AdvancedMD.

  • Initial two quarters of productivity was lower but ramped up quicker than expected.
  • Billing process workflow improved in the first quarter of implementation.
  • Training material assistance from vendor to end users would be great.
