Likelihood to Recommend

AdvancedPM (formerly ADP AdvancedMD)

AdvancedMD is appropriate for businesses that desire carte blanche access to the data contained in their entity's database. This is a great system for companies that are data/analytics driven. Unfortunately, the main drawback of the system (inability to accurately track deposit dates of payments) is a CRUCIAL FLAW. If a business is interested in a SIMPLE monthly reconciliation to their bank account, you will struggle with AdvancedMD.

eClinicalWorks

For outpatient primary care clinics, eClinicalWorks (ECW) is above average. It can be a bit overwhelming for older physicians who are not computer savvy. Our younger providers have taken to it quickly and use the advanced features more. The specialists are able to utilize ECW for their purposes thanks to the versatility of templates. Some of the more technical tracking (like OB pregnancy monitoring) is too basic. Day to day patient management for primary care is fairly efficient.

Pros

  • The customer service at ADP AdvancedMD is second to none. The just created an 'Idea Share' area where clients can talk to each other and offer suggestions on making the software better. They listen to their clients and take suggestions into consideration when considering what updates to include in their next release.
  • The product is very user friendly on both sides (PM and EHR). I have used other products in the past and find ADP AdvancedMD to be to be easiest to navigate.
  • Training and Implementation is great! They give clients the tools and resources necessary to be successful. From an online help file, to videos, to a consultant to help get you started, ADP AdvancedMD wants you to succeed.

  • One of the strengths of ECW can also be a weakness depending on the user's perception. ECW has a lot of redundancies. There are multiple pathways to perform a task. It can be appealing to advanced computer users because of the versatility. I have found that it tends to confuse lesser experienced computer users.
  • The creation of templates is very easy and any provider in our system can create one. It definitely makes documentation more efficient. By creating a set of templates for the clinic, we are able to standardize the orders/procedures along established guidelines.
  • We have converted our scheduling to open access. ECW allows us to set the follow up time and the end of the visit and then an alert is created. Front office staff can run the report and schedule patients closer to the actual time. It has improved our no show/cancellation rates.

Cons

  • Unapplied credits could be handled better within the software. It would be very beneficial to have the option to automatically apply unapplied credits to patients accounts across the board with a click of a button.
  • Facilities need to be able to be tied directly to Provider Profiles to make reporting easier.
  • You must use Internet Explorer with ADP AdvancedMD. It would be better if you could use it with Chrome, Firefox, etc.
  • Needs the ability to use the product on a MAC.

  • The interface with SureScripts has some small hiccups due to the way names are entered at the pharmacy vs in our system. About 50% of my refill requests that I receive electronically require me to confirm the patient or drug because of mismatches.
  • The lab interface with Quest seems to work well and results are received quickly. There is some difficulty with the compendium staying current. Each lab company has to participate in setting up an interface and results are varied. Labcorp frequently sends duplicate results; one through the interface and a faxed set. The hospital cannot interface at all. The variability makes it difficult to have the historical lab show up in one view to evaluate for trends.
  • Data analytics are not as strong as other programs. We decided to use third party software to better achieve our objectives.

I think it can be intimidating at first but once you begin navigating and learning the modules, it becomes less difficult to perform charting and operational processes.

It's very important to limit your schedule during the weeks after go live but it is equally important to have a resource that is the lead at the practice that ensures that milestones are met leading up to the go-live date. Someone must be the point person at the practice otherwise milestones will be missed and the implementation will run into problems.

Alternatives Considered

AdvancedMD is cloud-based. Kareo PM was cloud-based, but NextGen was not. The ability to reduce in-house infrastructure has been great. When we were using NextGen, it was much easier to reconcile our bank account to the payments posted in the PM software. AdvancedMD's access to data is far superior to that of Kareo or NextGen. NextGen's data was housed on internal servers, so we had similar carte blanche access to the data, but AdvancedMD is still superior.

  • I will just share one area that our organization saw the ROI in a very short time period. That is the elimination of a dictation service for most of our specialty group doctors when we introducec Dragon Medical. This functionality brought a tangible benefit and a significant ROI in a short time period.

  • In comparison to other software companies out there, you can be confident in knowing that ADP AdvancedMD is a great product! They have customer support available from 8am - 8pm EST, so there should always be someone there to help!
