Aerospike Database

Compared to Redis and memcacheD, high availibity is best from Aerospike. Load balancing is also well done through Aerospike. If you're doing K/V lookups data exceeds more than 1MB, then Aerospike definitely fits the bill. However, it is not best as a document store. It is really atrocious in that nature. If anything look @ Mongo or something else then.

Qlik Sense

Qlik Sense is an excellent product for analyzing and especially viewing your data on a variety of devices thanks to its responsive design. Qlik Sense also has many excellent features for managing and preparing your data.
A scenario where you might want to consider using QlikView instead of Qlik Sense would be where you have a large number of reports that users require. At the present time in this scenario you might be better off using the container object within QlikView or deciding whether or not you can reduce the number of reports
and still use Qlik Sense.

Pros

  • Scales really quickly and easily. Can deploy a new cluster or add to a cluster fairly quick.
  • MGMT UI is easy to use. Utilizing cli, makes it easy to "autoscale" for us.
  • The sharding removes any need to overlook to make sure if balanced correctly.
  • HA is dead simple, that almost little to no need figure out how to do it.

  • The responsive design for Qlik sense is excellent especially when you might not know what device will be accessing the site.
  • For developers they will benefit for the data manager which has features that will help them gain confidence in their data model and make changes easier.
  • Qlik Sense allows users to create stories that are powerpoint-like presentations. Because these are saved with the document it is easier to refer back to the source data when presenting to users. If you have ever been in a meeting where someone is presenting information from an Excel spreadsheet, is then asked a question and says 'We will have to get back to you on that one' , you will see the benefit of this feature.

Cons

  • Load balancing per network segments.
  • Reduction in price.
  • Cross datacenter replication usage isn't so straightforward. Sometimes cross dc replication can have issues of bad data..
Anson Abraham profile photo
  • Licensing was expensive compared to other market players
  • Qlik Sense plays a lot around memory management. An average user, unless they understand the data modeling, cannot optimise Qlik Sense usage properly which could lead to poor implementation. Qlik Sense should offer training in this space.

If money isn't an issue, and you're not on the cloud, then I'd go with Aerospike. If you're the cloud ie, aws or azure, then i'd stick with dynamoDB or Cosmos then. Aerospike is definitely not something you want to put into the cloud. It doesn't work well w/ cross regions. If cross DC, you'll have to write some stuff for data integrity checks.

Alternatives Considered

Compared to the above for K/V lookups and writes, it is faster. However, less than 1 MB, i'd use Redis, if you're willing to write package for HA in Redis. However HA between Redis and aerospike, aerospike is top notch. K/V lookups were 20-30% faster than Redis, 50% faster than Mongo, and 45% faster than Cassandra. But again, aerospike is really expensive.

Qlik Sense uses the same ETL platform as Qlikview, allows to publish data to cloud. The process of publishing is easy. Cloud (file storage on the cloud, file upload etc) interface is simple for developer.

Access to apps is easily controlled from with in the management console and this is very intuitive. Once an app is published it is instantly available to users based on the security roles. These are easy to maintain and update. From within an app it is simple to snapshot portions to share with other taking them straight to the view which has been shared.

Return on Investment

  • Less mgmt headaches, prompting time to focus on other issues.
  • HA, required little handholding. And minimization of downtime.
  • Cross region replication is not great, which sometimes requires data integrity checks on your end.

  • Qlik Sense dashboards are not completely developed and isn't fully available for all the Business Users, but the users who are using it are happy with the application
