Agile CRM

Agile CRM is well suited if an existing customer business process is defined or drafted thoroughly. Agile allowed automating workflows and marketing to improve lead management and suppress tedious tasks so users can focus on more important matters. However, Agile CRM costs can increase significantly if you want additional features and customizations. If you know what you're doing with CRMs and marketing automation or customer contracts and management then AgileCRM is worth a try.

Marketo

Marketo is an excellent Marketing Automation Platform geared towards marketers. If you are looking for a platform that is easy to use for both Marketing and Sales, this platform may be tricky to onboard. Marketo Smart Lists is a key feature and a very helpful tool for marketers when trying to target a specific group of people. The filters within Smart Lists are extensive and nearly every filter you can think of is available. The ability to create an AMB campaign in Marketo was a key project for our team to undertake. The Account Based Marketing tool within Marketo proved to be useful and helpful when targeting specific high producing prospects. However, you are limited to the number of accounts you can create for your ABM campaign. It would be helpful if this number was not capped.

Pros

  • Easy to add new contacts whether manually or automatically as they fill in forms on site.
  • The banners feature is useful to flag important messages regarding certain users.
  • The email reporting is easy to see CTR open rate etc.
Victoria Hoete-Dodd profile photo
  • Email nurture - the ability to build specific awareness/engagement streams and managing where people sit through transition rules means you can take your leads on a journey, providing the right content at the right time.
  • Segmentation - the ability to segment your database depending on whatever criteria you like means that you can quickly build the desired audience for a specific campaign. Segments are also updated in real time.
  • Attribution - understanding which channels or specific programs perform highly in terms of pipeline attribution is really powerful.

Cons

  • If a lead is marked as "hard bounce", meaning that a sent email bounced, the system will not send any more emails to that lead. The only way to fix this is to delete the lead and add it again. This results in losing all history from the lead.

  • There's a bit of a learning curve. Without significant training, even an experienced marketer might stumble around a bit. There's a lot of different ways to do one thing, but it's not always clear what best practices or implications may be for one way over another.
  • There doesn't appear to be an easy baked-in way to de-duplicate records (though it can only send out one email to duplicates). That's something we're dealing with now and may have to use a third party.
  • The ideal would be some direct integration into ad platforms - if it's there, I don't know it.

The training sessions are very helpful, because you have specialist that is available to answer any questions, guide you and coach you on how to dominate a certain feature of the platform. That being said,Whenever I have an issue that needs to be resolved, I can send email or call a support line. I usually use the support line.

Pages do not load quickly and caching is not available with Marketo. Google PageSpeed ranks it pretty low, which is something I'm hoping they'll improve in future releases.

On multiple occasions we've had Marketo support (technical and license based) issues. Technical issues were minor and resolved within a day. License based issues (even things encouraged by Marketo for partners, like provisioning another license) took WEEKS. They actually took so long to respond that the client we were working with withdrew from the contract because they were no longer convinced Marketo was capable of supporting their business. As an agency trying to sell the software, you can only explain away so much before they just made us look silly.

I had never used Marketo prior to taking this job so online training was my starting point. I was able to follow along, it was interesting and quickly and efficiently taught me what I needed to know without a lot of fluff. It was far from boring and really helped me get my hands dirty with Marketo.

Alternatives Considered

Agile CRM is much less expensive than Salesforce. It might not have all the potential of those thousands of add-ons, but for those who have basic needs – and the need to customize to some extent, it more than delivers.Agile CRM has more advanced features, particularly around marketing automation, and hub spot does. While hub spot is free for the CRM element, using the other tools that come standard and agile CRM raises your cost considerably.Outlook for business just isn't organized in a friendly enough way for you to see who you know and to keep things current.

Oracle Eloqua seems to work well with a lot of what we're trying to do, but it works best in an all-Oracle ecosystem, which we were not at the time of signing on. So far, it appears that Oracle plays well with Oracle and some others, but Marketo plays well with just about everybody. Admittedly, the Eloqua drag and drop page building seems to be a bit more robust, but we're using entirely custom builds, so that's a bit irrelevant. The biggest difference is that Marketo plays very well with custom opportunity objects in Salesforce. When we last evaluated Eloqua, either it didn't have that ability or didn't play as nicely.

Return on Investment

  • Agile CRM is such an integral part of our business, that I can imagine life without it. If we didn't have it, it would mean missing important calls, not following up on key leads, and not having current contact information for many of our clients, vendors, and prospects.
  • In addition to cost savings, agile CRM also helps me save time. It's very responsive, so updating records is not a hassle. I particularly like being able to import details from someone's LinkedIn page without having the type of thing.

  • Marketo has definitely helped with efficiency. We moved from another program where we had to upload lists and could only do them in batches of so many at a time. This and many other factors have made us more efficient!
  • Marketo has helped us with our tracking of leads through the entire funnel. We can now go from an anonymous lead just looking at our website all the way through to closed business. We can also then loop it around again to use our lead process for upsell opportunities which is critical in today's market.
  • Marketo has had a huge impact on us because of its ability to integrate with our CRM. We can now work with sales and customer service to ensure that we have the correct contacts and there is seamless integration to offer them the visibility into what a contact has received.
