Agile CRM

For small businesses who need one piece of software to do a lot for the money, their free plan for 10 users is awesome and upgrading is very good value. They are our go-to suggestion for clients who need a CRM and marketing automation but can't justify Hubspot from a price perspective. A CRM at the most basic can hold notes and contact details about clients, and this is all some users may need. That more advanced users can automate inbound leads and send emails on triggers is amazing at this price point.

Pros

  • Tracks all of our clients, prospects and sales pipeline
  • Manages inbound leads and marketing automation
  • Acts as a bulk email system for messages and e-newsletters
Jez John profile photo
  • It's very easy to see lead acquisition from multiple sources with ROI, so it can be calculated where marketing budget is best spent
  • Engagement streams are easy to build, with multiple if -> then conditions built into a stream for easy segmentation, getting the right message to the right person at the right time
  • There's a massive amount of partners and integrations available - if there's something you want to do that isn't baked in, there's probably a provider that has a software for that

Cons

  • While many aspects of the software are intuitive and simple to implement, much of the marketing automation functions assumed a level of technical familiarity that was beyond the average user. As soon as a tutorial tells me to get something from GitHub, I get the idea they're talking to a technician.
  • The help files, tutorials were of low quality and not always kept up to date with changes in layout of the software etc.
  • During the period we were using Agile CRM, I had to constantly trawl through their update logs and forum. This is because, as the name Agile suggests, the development and improvement of the software was constantly evolving in an organic fashion. But many of the developments were not relevant to us; majorly they were integrations with obscure apps that I would never use. But I had to understand 20 changes to locate the one that had some relevance to me.

  • There's a bit of a learning curve. Without significant training, even an experienced marketer might stumble around a bit. There's a lot of different ways to do one thing, but it's not always clear what best practices or implications may be for one way over another.
  • There doesn't appear to be an easy baked-in way to de-duplicate records (though it can only send out one email to duplicates). That's something we're dealing with now and may have to use a third party.
  • The ideal would be some direct integration into ad platforms - if it's there, I don't know it.

Reliability and Availability

The training sessions are very helpful, because you have specialist that is available to answer any questions, guide you and coach you on how to dominate a certain feature of the platform. That being said,Whenever I have an issue that needs to be resolved, I can send email or call a support line. I usually use the support line.

Pages do not load quickly and caching is not available with Marketo. Google PageSpeed ranks it pretty low, which is something I'm hoping they'll improve in future releases.

Alternatives Considered

Agile CRM did most of what PipeDrive did, some of what Hubspot does, and a range of other stuff that I was starry eyed about at the outset. but I eventually concluded that a jack-of-all-trades was not what i was looking for. And while the support team tried, they didn't have English as their first language and weren't on my time zone so all those factors conspired to turn me off on the end.

I find Marketo to be somewhere between Salesforce and NetSuite. It doesn't offer the in-depth development environment that NetSuite does (to allow for extensive customization and full comprehensive CRM/lead tracking/etc. capabilities). However, I find Marketo to be a better solution for most mid-size business lead/CRM /email needs than Salesforce. Marketo's smart lists make exporting data and aggregating desired (including unique parameters) straightforward and can be set up and saved. Salesforce does have customized reporting, but I've found the interface to be less intuitive and straightforward.

We have noticed performance issues when large jobs are submitted. Typically involving imports or massive data changes but we've noticed slowdowns and bottlenecks.

Return on Investment

  • It may be me but I spent a disproportionate amount of time figuring out how to derive more ROI from Agile CRM. The functionality and facilities were there but I eventually gave up as it was taking too much time and attention.

  • Better reporting on email clicks and opens which allows insight into interest
