Aha!

Great for software product management. Hard to think of too many situations where a PM team couldn't get value from the product. Not well suited if you're cash strapped. Nor if you want something streamlined and simple.

Pros

  • Very flexible workflows, custom fields, terminology, and interface design
  • Easy to get started with whatever elements you want to use without requiring an all in approach. For example, we started with features and releases. After we were comfortable with the product we started managing our goals and initiatives. Even later we opened an idea portal to work with the rest of our business
  • Nice clean look. Good documentation. Responsive support.

  • Pre-scheduling social media shares before content is published
  • Calendar view to clearly see what's going out, when
  • Metrics on what content is doing well, and easy to repost top performing posts

Cons

  • Some of the workflows will auto update in non-sensical ways… For instance, it will update a project that is marked as "In Progress" in JIRA to "Done" in Aha!
  • The integration with JIRA doesn't allow auto-updating so that when one of the people I manage adds a project in JIRA it doesn't show up in Aha! until I manually create it in Aha!
  • It's costly to add additional seats to the license so I only have the essential people with permissions to edit or create.

Support always answered in 24 hours for any inquiry-- a reasonable timeframe for most of our requests. The PM team participated actively in supporting their features, keeping them close to the product.

Alternatives Considered

Aha! is completely different compared to the other products I've evaluated. I would compare Aha! to Atlassian/JIRA. It's great for agile teams to do weekly sprints and breakdown large features/product upgrades into individual tasks.

Return on Investment

  • I was not responsible for choosing Aha! as a software solution for our organization nor do I have any input into the cost. I do know it has helped up to stay more organized and increase communication channels.

  • Probably too early to tell for certain but it is definitely value priced right now. Fully developed content management platforms are running in $15-$20k per year range and more. You can get into a CoSchedule solution for $
  • Team has found it easy to sign on and review tasks so this is a big time saver. More could be done to enable Guests easier access to content they need to review
  • It's way faster that other scheduling apps we have tried. The fact that it runs on a cloud based app or inside your Wordpress app is a real plus. Auto save feature also means you don't have to remember to save your content.
