AirWatch

Airwatch is a leader in the EMS/MDM space and [I] believe it is poised to continue to be a leader. VMware's acquisition along with EMC/DELL will give even more resources to help Airwatch stay current in this ever changing space

BMC Client Management

Well suited for medium to large business that are looking to manage assets, deploy software automatically and need a high level of control over patching. Less appropriate for smaller businesses where fewer computers can be easily managed by hand or with freely available tools.

Pros

  • It does nothing particular well. If you need to manage a lot of different devices (e.g. iOS, Android, Blackberry) and you only want to do it with one MDM, it will do it, but it will cause you a lot headache along the way.

  • Easy to use
  • Easy to upgrade
  • Highly flexible without customization
  • Great community/support
  • Patch management provides the flexibility to deploy patches using a test to production methodology. It also allows us to customize restart actions which helps with compliance but eases disruption to the business.
  • Computer imaging and software deployment work together to improve speed to delivery.
  • Financial asset management is very useful providing all of the information we need to support our PC replacement process.

Cons

  • Admin console is cumbersome and has features poorly organized. Completing some simple tasks can take some searching.
  • Devices sometimes are randomly seen as "compromised" and need to be added. Users all reported not doing anything out of the ordinary. Has happened to approximately 7-10% of devices.
  • Devices must be "Supervised" to maximize features. Placing devices in "supervised" mode can only be done on a Apple computer.

  • Reporting can be challenging
  • Advanced features like image deployment lack detailed documentation
  • Would like to see the addition of flexible field names, especially to financial asset management.

Likelihood to Renew

AirWatch7.0

We've used it for 3 years and our contract is up later this year. We own the licenses, but we would have to either renew cloud services or bring the services in-house and install on servers here. We may want to see what's new in the marketplace that could be just as useful and cost effective.

Usability

AirWatch8.0
Based on 1 answer
It works well for our environment and what we're using it for. It actually does more than we're currently utilizing, but I believe our needs will change in the near future and we could utilize more features.

Reliability and Availability

AirWatch5.0
Based on 1 answer
Just in the past few weeks our staff has had several issues with the website. It is either taking a long time to load anything or we are not able to get in at all. This is very frustrating when you are trying to manage and enroll users. It was down 2 days in a row just this past week. Not good!

Performance

Went over the availability just a minute ago on the last rating. Don't use the reporting too much but will likely begin that soon. Integration with Active Directory doesn't seem to bog either system down.

They're usually very good. I've talked to any number of techs from level one to level 3. They all seem pretty knowledgeable about the product and how to support it.

Have your organizational structure and heirarchy outlined. This helps when you are ready to create OU's and subs in AirWatch.

It is really scalable. They love to have more users as you pay by the license. They are great in this regard.

Return on Investment

  • When there is an APNS issue the time to resolve has an average of 2 to 3 weeks. During this time we are dead in the water.
