It's well-suited to small companies without a dedicated sales force. It helps collect, organize and analyze leads.Perhaps, it adds value to larger teams too, but it has certainly been a valuable addition to us early on in the business when build lead lists and client lists were more challenging.I'm not sure what the current pricing structure is, but it was good value for us at the time of purchase 2 years; pricing has not increased for us since then. So, again, for smaller teams or teams with a limited reach out budget, this may be a suitable option.

ABBY SmartCAT is truly a universal solution that can fit any type of organization from freelancers flying solo, to small team of translators and large translation agencies.Anyone who wants to establish themselves as a professional translator can benefit greatly from the CAT tool that SmartCAT offers absolutely free of charge, while teams will surely appreciate the collaborative features that make it possible to work simultaneously with other translators, proofreaders, editors and QA experts on a single project.

  • Project setup is super easy and straightforward. Literally takes seconds to create a project, assign TM and termbases and add team members.
  • As a project manager, I need to understand the progress of the project and where everyone on the team is. ABBYY SmartCAT makes it easy to track these things.
  • SmartCAT makes it incredibly easy to pay our translators which is much cheaper than handling payments via wire transfers.
  • Their CAT tool offers great collaborative features including the ability to assign segments and leave comments on strings so proofreaders could see them.

  • It would be nice to have a direct link on the page that visitors have viewed, so I could quickly check out the site myself.
  • It is hard to copy-paste the link on the viewed pages report to actually see which page has been viewed.
  • A little complicated to use the whole software when you get started, no clear explanation of concepts.

  • Performance has been an issue initially. Sometimes it takes longer for some things to load and it can be frustrating.
  • UI seems a bit confusing at times. For example, I don't understand why I need to have a translator's profile when I'm clearly a project manager.
  • Their support team can take a long time to reply which often crucial for urgent projects.

More or less, Albacross is similar to their competitors but they have a great support, better data accuracy (subjective), and easy setup.

We also tried Memsource but it was lacking in terms of overall user experience and ease of use. Assigning projects in SmartCAT is a much more intuitive experience, plus it has all these other additional features that are absent from Memsource (like payment solution for freelancers). On top of that, the SmartCAT is absolutely free to use.
