Alfresco ECM

If you have regulatory or business needs that require saving email into Alfresco and you are using Outlook for Mac, you may need to perform significant customization to make it work. Additionally, if you will have users that will be members to a large numbers of sites over time, you need to thoroughly explore what functionality will be degraded or lost and how to mitigate the impact. Other than these two scenarios, I cannot think of any scenarios where Alfresco would not be well suited to an organization's needs.

Pros

  • One of the standout features available on this enterprise digital document management system is the workflow and collaboration options it includes. This solution lets you easily share files with certain members of your team. You can also route documents to certain individuals for approval or review.
  • Alfresco also offers social tools. You can view an activity feed and see what is happening with content. You can also “like” and “follow” certain creators or content. Additionally, Alfresco offers the ability to publish your content directly to certain websites and social media networks.
  • Alfresco provides all of the necessary features for finding, editing and storing documents. You can open existing documents and edit them. Version control options are available, allowing you to access and view the most recent and previous versions of a document. There are also document imaging capabilities and the option to store your files and documents on the Alfresco cloud.
  • Additionally, this enterprise content management software is accessible on mobile devices. You can view content on these devices and even make changes. This is a valuable tool that makes working on the go much easier and more enjoyable.

Cons

  • Using YUI (Yahoo User Interface) for id's makes my job in Quality Assurance tough.

  • Search is not working well. We could not get it work even we worked it with IBM support.
  • Java Applet in Ephox editor is pain. You have to watch that you update your Java version correctly or You cannot edit anything. This might work somehow on enterprise environment with tight workstation configuration. I think that Java Applet editor is the worst part of IBM WCM
  • IBM WCM needs lot of capacity on database and appserver.

Nowadays, technology grows up faster that we realise. IBM Web Content Manager is the past, present and future solution which invests in the next generation of technology. They have always been at the top of IT solutions, improving user's needs and showing benefits to big companies. New releases and changes have been ongoing and the tool is as strong as the market demands. My recommendation is not just a business but also an IT technical point: IBM has great professionals who work hard to cooperate with their partners to build great solutions.
