Aloha POS

Restaurants and bars are what I believe to be the best place to utilize the Aloha POS system. We primarily use it for bar orders, as our restaurant is prepaid buffet with cash bar. Because we only use it for drinks, it keeps the screen options to a minimum making it easier to navigate for our bartenders and servers.

If you have time and technical knowledge to understand the customization setup, proceed. We are still modifying modifiers and products to match our menu which was set up nearly 3 years ago. If you want to change your menu to your POS limitations then move to another product.

Cons

  • Clunky
  • Outdated
  • Reporting functionality is limited.

  • Support - Confused, knowledge base articles out of date.
  • Interface changes - frequent interface changes (which I usually like) sometimes don't make it more user-friendly.
  • Pricing - absurd monthly pricing for features that would really help but cost almost nothing to support (ie customer display.)

Alternatives Considered

The simplicity of Aloha is something that I will always speak highly of - Conqueror cannot compare in that regard. However, Conqueror is something that was designed as an all-in-one system for bowling, food and beverage, and many other things. The fact that it is all-encompassing, and is very easy to customize, sets it apart from Aloha in the environment I am currently in. I love the functionality of Aloha, and believe it is a much better training tool than anything else I have used.

  • Square - Used Square with our entire menu for over 3 months. Doesn't handle food applications well.
  • Shopkeep - While promising, doesn't offer a delivery management in any way, and online ordering is handled through third-party which is more expensive and more time-consuming to manage.

Return on Investment

  • This was used in a large company, so the ability to use the same POS throughout the company surely saved money, and allowed the company to be fully aware of forthcoming updates.
  • The primary use was in a traditional restaurant setting, and I still have not found a more cost-effective POS system, that is this user-friendly.
  • The ability to track our sales and labor numbers on the back end was invaluable in running a smart and responsible business.

  • Instant sales information, can tell day by day, hour by hour what is selling
  • Help us to eliminate slow moving product and increase differentiation in high selling products.
