Fast and simple setup. I didn't need to read through ANY documentation to set up and have a backup running.
Easy and cost-effective licensing. I didn't need to count CPU's or VM's or other random facts to work out my licensing. Just how many hosts, and then one of 3 feature levels of which two have unlimited VM licensing. Hosts x Feature Set = Cost.
Easy Restores. Backing up is one thing, but restoring and having confidence in the restore is another. It just works, simple and effective.
Help is easy to find if you need it. From within the app, it gives you options of email, phone, and live chat, which is usually available even with odd time zones in play.

Simple - Rubrik CDM centralizes backups around SLA. Objects, like VMs, are assigned to SLAs and the backups happen according to the SLA schedule.
Powerful - Rubrik CDM gives us the option to adjust backup frequency, retention, archival location (co-lo or cloud), and allows for legal-hold. Additionally, it supports all the platforms we need to backup.
Flexible - The GUI interface gives us access to almost everything we would ever need and their API, and API-first design, allows scripting. Scripting opens up additional use-cases and meets unique requirements.
Excellent Support - Rubrik's support is knowledgeable and has been easy to contact and get help from whenever we've need it.

Cons

Single file restore is not included in the 2 VM free edition.
Can't restore a single SQL database, you have to restore the entire VM.

Cloud cluster has it's limitations as far as performance and resilience. With large data in the environment, it has issues archiving large amounts of data to S3.
Multi-tenancy permissions are not fully baked. I had to get creative to give proper permissions to admins of different organizations. I submitted an RFE for this.
Notifications are also not fully baked. Anyone that is an admin level of any organization, receives all system notifications.

We have been very satisficed with Rubrik over the years that we have been using the product. We have seen a few minor issues with some of the upgrades that have been applied, but overall the product works and is easy to use. Our SQL DBA's love the product to manage their SQL server backups because the restores are fast and can be done at the database level.

Rubrik has a simple to use interface and day to day management is very simple yet it doesn't sacrifice flexibility. Expanding capacity as data grows is very easy and does not require downtime. Upgrading is simple and efficient. Setup and configuration are straight forward.

The chat is very responsive. They work hard to find you a solution. They are very competent and very friendly. Most of the time they will simply open a request for you and ask to send the support package (bunch of logs and files) and will come back by email, but you can also click on the chat button inside Altaro to talk to someone.

Rubrik support is hands down some of the best product support we have. They know their product and are quick to assist. Submitting support cases is easier and they are very responsive. You don't have to use Rubrik support often but when you do they have your back.

Alternatives Considered

Altaro brings value to organizations looking at other platforms. It's definitely less expensive overall than Veeam, Datto or Infrascale. The recovery solution for Altaro is very good and reliable. Any organization looking at Veeam should consider Altaro as a potential alternative - depending on requirements. Although lacking in some granular backup/recovery systems, organizations looking at the backup of VMs only - numerous VMs with an off-site cloud location already setup. Costs can potentially increase if numerous versions or long deletion policy needs to be maintained. However such costs would increase on Veeam as well. Solarwinds and Carbonite charge based on selected sizes while Asigra has an amazing deduplication system for VMs, however, Asigra can become pricey with longer deletion/versioning setups as well.

Veeam is the closest to Rubrik but still cannot compare in its simplicity and success rates. The others just don't even compare, heck you have to have a PHD just to use CommVault

Very easy to add new 'briks' (or nodes as everyone else calls them :P) as long as the network is plugged in and configured, the briks will discuss among themselves and welcome the new comer into the cluster
