Alteryx Analytics

Well suited: if an organization already has a lot of running ETLs or pipelines but need to systemize them, Alteryx is a good choice. It would be good to figure out how well Alteryx would be harmonized with the existing components, but in a general sense, it may be well harmonized. Less appropriate: Alteryx is good for "automation", but some data developers and analysts may prefer to remain and keep using SQL tools. One should be careful of not just adding "one more layer or tool" into the existing pipeline and make it more complicated to manage.

CallRail

I recommend CallRail all the time. I think it's best suited for companies running multiple ad campaigns that are not producing direct sales online and they are trying to track which campaigns are producing the most calls and sales. I would say that it is not well suited for pages with a single traffic source and that are not using paid ads or external ads to track calls.

Pros

  • Alteryx provides an integrated workflow management environment for data blending, analytics, and reporting. It is also very extensible to be connected to a variety of data connections including major databases (Oracle, etc.), analytics tools (R), and visualization tools such as Tableau through its plugins. Our department used Oracle and Tableau already and it was well integrated with Alteryx.
  • The workflow authoring environment in Desktop is easy to use so that most of the users (if they are a bit skilled data developers or analysts) may not need the training to use its basic functions. Drag and drop interface and icons are intuitive to understand.
  • When running Alteryx workflows, it is easy to monitor and track what's the progress by seeing percentages. It is helpful to balance and manage bandwidths of database servers, especially when to populate large data sets.

  • Tracking phone calls first & foremost! Being able to have a running tally of the phone calls made and listening to the recorded calls throughout the month and providing that information back to our clients is vital!
  • Their UI is exceptionally easy to use & navigate. This is important when we have many clients running at the same time and we are able to always determine what report is for which client.
  • The ease of setting up a brand new client & their tracking phone number is fantastic! Saves a lot of time when it walks you through everything you need to know & do step by step.

Cons

  • Improve work flow in modules, sometimes buggy when dealing with multiple files
  • On-screen wizard could help demonstrate common best practices
  • Add more tools that could benefit the user without them having to create macros

  • Some client facing reporting would be great! We typically don't give clients logins, as all of our clients are within one business UI. Having something that a client can log into would be very helpful!
  • Although the entire purpose of CallRail is the recorded phone calls - it would be nice to have some additional in depth reporting to be able to report back to a client to give us more insights!
  • Pricing tiers could be better for agency type businesses.

I personally have moved to a different position that does not require data analysis tools. I really enjoyed working with Alteryx and think it is a great tool, but have moved to a different organization and role.

I use many programs and compared to others, Alteryx virtually never goes down, freezes up or gives an application error. Over a 4 year time period that I have used this program, any of these may have happened 3 times. It is an incredibly stable program that I feel completely confident in.

There is really not much to it (the installation, that is). Once you get it installed, along with any of the add-ons (demographics, R, etc.), you are up and running almost immediately. There is really no additional setup. You can immediately begin blending data, running demographics, performing spatial queries, running predictive analysis, etc. And for many of these functions, the learning curve is quite easy.

We tested this against several COTS packages and found Alteryx to be a more cost effective solution that could be deployed to a variety of user types

CallRail does not have a lot of good competitors. In addition to that, the CallRail team is always looking for ways to add more functionality and make the product work better which is great as not all companies do this. I think that this make them a much better overall value as you are going with a company that you know will give you the best value for your money and will only continue to add value over time. When I looked at the competitors, it only made sense to use CallRail as the solution for our pay per call tracking needs

  • Being able to directly connect a number of phone calls, the quality of the calls, and the number of unique calls from various online campaigns has a direct result on how effective marketing campaigns are deemed. For our service-based clients, we could miss out on 40-80% of their lead volume if we didn't have CallRail tracking.
