Alteryx Analytics

Alteryx can do so much more than I use it for, so I believe the only case where Alteryx wouldn't be needed is when a department/team had a full development team to prep data pre-analysis or already has a central data store fully stood up and standardized. Alteryx works extremely well with a multitude of BI and database solutions and would be a great fit for any team trying to speed up the typical daily grind of data prep and ETL so their analytics and data team can be more agile, accurate, and automated.

CallRail

CallRail is great for agency type businesses that have a lot of clients to do business on their behalf. As many numbers as needed can be created and reported on. If you're in the advertising world, call tracking is a great way to be able to track any conversions/phone calls back to your paid campaign. It could even be utilized for on TV and Radio to be able to track those phone calls to a phone number of your choosing and report that back to the client.

Pros

  • It can independently generate required analytics instead of having to require specialists.
  • The ability to read and write in a multitude of formats: from Excel, Access tables, Tableau and Teradata to MapInfo, ESRI, Google Earth, etc.
  • Single drag and drop workflow instead of multiple tools.

  • CallRail does dynamic keyword insertion incredibly well, especially if you are looking to use toll-free numbers instead of local numbers.
  • CallRail does session tracking very well. I've always been impressed to find the visitors page viewed session data very useful in better understanding what people are doing before making a phone call.

Cons

  • Improve work flow in modules, sometimes buggy when dealing with multiple files
  • On-screen wizard could help demonstrate common best practices
  • Add more tools that could benefit the user without them having to create macros

  • The integration with Hubspot is not as seemless as I would have liked. We had an issue where a person who was already in Hubspot called in, and their contact information was not matched to the caller ID correctly which created some duplicate entries. A little bit of a bummer, but from what I understand they may have fixed this. We had to stop using them for a little while because our outsourced sales team was more confused by adding CallRail, so we'll be re-implementing this once our new sales team is fully trained. Hopefully the record miss-match issue gets fixed.

Through a graphical UI one can perform engineering and development, other vendors do not have such a code-less interface.

I use many programs and compared to others, Alteryx virtually never goes down, freezes up or gives an application error. Over a 4 year time period that I have used this program, any of these may have happened 3 times. It is an incredibly stable program that I feel completely confident in.

Implementation

Alteryx Analytics10.0
Based on 1 answer
There is really not much to it (the installation, that is). Once you get it installed, along with any of the add-ons (demographics, R, etc.), you are up and running almost immediately. There is really no additional setup. You can immediately begin blending data, running demographics, performing spatial queries, running predictive analysis, etc. And for many of these functions, the learning curve is quite easy.

Breadth of Deployment

Our company kept it contained in the marketing department. Other departments may not understand it.

Alternatives Considered

It has much more data connections and flexibility but writing queries manually is typically more flexible. It stacks up very high. Good data, Alteryx and Tableau, and a user can be prepared for an impromptu meeting and make a big impact. I haven't used anything like Alteryx for a direct comparison since they have a pretty unique piece of the market.

I have used Marchex and Navis in the past, and those platforms aren't as functional, or as easy to use as CallRail. Setting up new numbers takes about 1 minute, and the amount of tracking options and placement capabilities makes it the easiest call tracking platform I've ever used. In the past, having to manually export spreadsheets to report on data was cumbersome at best, CallRail automates a lot of that process.

Collaboration and Sharing

Alteryx Analytics7.2
Based on 16 answers
It’s easy to give licenses and work amongst teams. Once a report is created it can be shared with colleagues who might want to use the processes built but add more relevant parameters to the data. An example might be a GL report ran by finance but procurement could use the same report and limit to PPV for their own analysis of a unique cost

Data Integration

Alteryx Analytics8.9
Based on 16 answers
Merging data is easiest among any platform I’ve used. The data sources available is broad and I understand Alteryx is constantly adding to the sources of data used by their customers. I particularly like the ability to schedule reports out of Alteryx. This makes it valuable as tool to do research and ad hoc analysis but also reduce the time spent actually running and delivering reports pre-built

Return on Investment

  • Strong ROI
  • Increased efficiency of the analytics teams
Rana Banerji profile photo
  • CallRail has a huge positive impact on ROI. Before implementing call tracking we were simply not counting good, qualifying phone calls as leads, which means the marketing team's efforts were being under-valued.
  • It's allowed us to see a much clearer ROAS every Adwords campaign, including a 25% improvement in CPL from branded paid search. Within the world of complex travel, many people phone us to book and the lead is closed on the phone. Some of our most expensive-seeming Adwords campaigns now report a much stronger return as we can count qualifying phone calls leads back to Adwords as a conversion - we're not just counting submission of a web form as the only way to get a lead.
