Alteryx Analytics

More often than not, Alteryx can handle any situation or scenario thrown at it. Some may take a little more "trickery" along the way, but for the most part it is fairly easy to get from point A (data) to point B (results/report). And the nice thing is is that there is more than one way to produce the same result - two people with two different mindsets can ultimately create the same thing, but do so in a way that is better suited for their skill level.

HubSpot

HubSpot is great for businesses seeking to accelerate growth and require an easy way to manage data, marketing and sales in one place. However, some versions of HubSpot may be too expensive for a start-up, so there are packages such as free and basic to support them. The key to getting value from HubSpot as the technology platform is understanding the value of an inbound marketing and sales approach. This may mean you need to pivot some of your processes to become more buyer-focused, which will deliver you a greater business benefit in any case!

Pros

  • Data ingestion: Alteryx is capable of connecting with a multitude of data sources from SQL databases to cloud-hosted solutions like Salesforce, Tableau, or Google Analytics. Also supports OleDB & ODBC connections.
  • Dynamic data munging: Alteryx has a great variety of processing tools to clean and prep data including: dedupe, formulas, joins, union, sort... Performing these functions really quickly on even moderately equipped laptops or desktops. It's dynamic in that it can easily handle changes in data by allowing extra columns to flow through.
  • Macros: have a process that you are consistently running in separate workflows? Build a macro, be it a batch or iterative, Alteryx can do it. I've built 40-50 macros and use at least 4+ in every workflow I design so data is handled the same way in every workflow for consistency and cutting down on copy/pastes.

  • HubSpot provides centralised management of contact information and insights for the whole business to access, in a very user-friendly way.
  • HubSpot delivers a solid set of tools both for the Sales and Marketing teams, along with some of the best training and support in the market to drive value from these tools and processes.
  • HubSpot integrates other tools and services really well, so we can keep data in one place
  • We have a great relationship with the team at HubSpot as well as the ecosystem of supporting vendors and customers. There are numerous groups and educational resources to support HubSpot and learn about inbound marketing.

Cons

  • Speed is somewhat lacking.
  • It isn't optimally geared for ETL.
  • Intellisense would be a nice feature
  • There is no version control.
  • The tools could use some more features.
  • More pre-built macros would be nice

  • The forms software was a little limited if you don't do custom CSS work, but I believe this has improved. We are now able to produce good-looking landing pages and forms.
  • Some of the HubSpot emails are not as mobile-responsive as I would like them to be, but this could be user-error on our part.
  • HubSpot used to have limited integrations but they are adding to those every month and now all of our major technologies we use integrate well.

I will likely continue to use Alteryx because it allows quick, customizable data analysis. Often, I will be given a business question, which I might not know how to answer, but after getting into Alteryx, dragging and dropping some tools, I can formulate the answer. At the same time, this is definitely a niche software (not something that would ever be adopted by my entire company), which makes it a bit less appealing to some.

Our business relies on the HubSpot platform to manage our marketing, sales and CRM processes. HubSpot marketing automation helps us define our activities and streamlines them in a cohesive and efficient way. Without HubSpot, we will have to revert to the 'old way' of doing everything with a variety of disparate systems.

I use many programs and compared to others, Alteryx virtually never goes down, freezes up or gives an application error. Over a 4 year time period that I have used this program, any of these may have happened 3 times. It is an incredibly stable program that I feel completely confident in.

With all the new features in HubSpot, the system can get a tad slow sometimes... That said, most of the time it is lightning fast and I have no problems. Because most of the integrations are API, they silently work in the background. I have not had trouble with lag due to HubSpot integration

They answer my questions quickly, followup, make it easy to reach them. I'm not made to sit on hold for a long time, there are status updates such as what number in queue you are (I've never been lower than 4th in queue). They're seriously the standard I judge all other companies support by.

I did the 2-day classroom at HubSpot's corporate office in Cambridge. First off, it was amazing to see their corporate office in general. They have such a cool office environment. But it was also great to have the ability to learn in a workshop format with other HubSpot users and meet my Account Manager/ Inbound Marketing Consultant in person.

I went through Inbound Marketing University in 2006. Great training and helped my transition from traditional (outbound) marketing to inbound marketing that I've been able to apply to a number of businesses from wastewater and water reuse, to professional services and SaaS. Share information of value to build awareness and trust. Answer customers' questions in a transparent way to generate more qualified leads. Understand the difference between a marketing qualified lead and a sales qualified lead and put together a lead nurturing program. Your sales and marketing efforts will see significant ROI.

Implementation

Based on 1 answer
There is really not much to it (the installation, that is). Once you get it installed, along with any of the add-ons (demographics, R, etc.), you are up and running almost immediately. There is really no additional setup. You can immediately begin blending data, running demographics, performing spatial queries, running predictive analysis, etc. And for many of these functions, the learning curve is quite easy.

Make use of the Inbound Marketing Consultant. This person is going to help you learn the tools and get your first campaigns/blog posts set up, and they are very valuable — especially in the beginning. Also, consider the on-site training in Cambridge, MA. Not only do you get to see the HubSpot Corporate office, but you also get a classroom-style training with the Academy team. It is well worth the investment.

Alternatives Considered

We tested this against several COTS packages and found Alteryx to be a more cost effective solution that could be deployed to a variety of user types

Whilst Marketo is reasonable we didn't find it gave us the flexibility required in terms of defining our own marketing automation workflows. This is even more crucial when tailoring the product to a client as they often have wildly different requirements.

Doesn't really allow for much collaboration in real time other than sharing flat files with coworkers. Have to utilize a 3rd party cloud hosting platform in order to try to collaborate on a workflow.

While HubSpot initially, seven years ago, seemed built for SMBs it appears they have scaled their solution for larger enterprises. I do not have experience sending out 10 million-plus emails per month so I don't know how HubSpot would handle that. However, I do know that some other marketing automation platforms have had trouble with such scale. As such, I suggest HubSpot have one of it's enterprise customers share data on the length of time it takes to send out 1 million emails. Are we talking minutes, hours or days? Then decide what's right for you based on your business needs.

Return on Investment

  • It gets the job done fast.
  • It lends itself well for people with a less-technical aptitude to understand the data process.
  • It empower the user to come up with any possible solution to a problem.
Nick Lensing profile photo
  • Faster lead conversion. We have struggled with getting the right information to the right prospect and the right time. Inbound marketing with HubSpot has allowed us to collect information from potentials and deliver content and offers based the information in real-time.
  • In the past we've heard from our current customers that they "didn't know we did that". Now, as part of our email marketing program, we're making sure that our current customers are aware of all our services and we're able to measurable the engagement with that content to ensure our messages is getting across.
  • Efficient platform integration. Before HubSpot we had a website on one platform, web analytics on another platform, email marketing and social on two other platforms, no good way to create landing pages with offers, and limited integration with CRM. HubSpot has brought all of that together and is making marketing, sales and customer support more efficient and saving us money.
