Alteryx Analytics

I am admittedly a Customer Evangalist for Alteryx and believe that Alteryx should be considered as a solution enabler in most cases. Alteryx allows for connection to data of many types and sources. If Alteryx complicates or lengthens the execution time of a process because of the need to move data from one point to another, I'd likely rearchitect the solution.Call Alteryx and see how quickly they respond to your needs. Client Services is available most hours either by phone, email or chat. You can post to their community boards. They are very responsive and seek high customer satisfaction. They are very accessible and if you want to talk to their Chief Customer Officer, she'll get on the phone with you.

IBM DSx is best suited for creating cloud-based machine learning modeling. Its support for open-source software such as Python and R is a plus. For Data Analyst who prefers writing codes for all their algorithms, DSx is a better place to do this. The latest packages for the software can be added and installed easily too.

Cons

  • Alteryx should provide Tableau Data Extracts (TDE) as an input option, it would be really helpful. It's more to do on Tableau side though.
  • We should be able to filter and manipulate the browse thing in Alteryx so that we can analyze even better.

Likelihood to Renew

We've developed a working partnership with Alteryx. As an enablement suite, we're continuing to innovate and deliver great products with use of Alteryx in our solutions. Alteryx use expands to our global product development teams and is in use in multiple parts of our organization. Alteryx also delivers Experian demographic content to other clients in their product offering. We're highly likely to renew, but that decision is way above my pay grade.

Through a graphical UI one can perform engineering and development, other vendors do not have such a code-less interface.

I use many programs and compared to others, Alteryx virtually never goes down, freezes up or gives an application error. Over a 4 year time period that I have used this program, any of these may have happened 3 times. It is an incredibly stable program that I feel completely confident in.

Implementation

Alteryx Analytics10.0
Based on 1 answer
There is really not much to it (the installation, that is). Once you get it installed, along with any of the add-ons (demographics, R, etc.), you are up and running almost immediately. There is really no additional setup. You can immediately begin blending data, running demographics, performing spatial queries, running predictive analysis, etc. And for many of these functions, the learning curve is quite easy.

Breadth of Deployment

Our company kept it contained in the marketing department. Other departments may not understand it.

Alternatives Considered

Other tools that have been used include SAS, MS Excel, MS Acess, PLSQL, and MapInfo. Alteryx is the best single source to get many thing completed. I feel that SAS, being primarily an Analytical Suite, is better and more powerful and customizable than alteryx when it comes to modeling but has a bigger learning curve. Excel is faster and provides instant results (cells change as you make changes without having to be "run") but isn't close to as powerful or equipped to handled big datasets. Same thing with SQL, it's less work to do a query in SQL Developer but alteryx is much faster at processing the data. Mapinfo's maps look better but there's a bigger learning curve to use it than Alteryx. All in all, Alteryx is the overall best solution.

Return on Investment

  • Alteryx has significantly improved employee efficiency. It's helped reduce turnaround time by ~30% already and we expect this to to do more as we leverage more of the tools.
  • Alteryx has also been used to automate repetitive processes to free up employees to focus on more of the analytical tasks.
  • The only negative to the business impact is how licenses are handed. They often expire without notice and can negatively affect clients.
Adrian Harvey, MBA profile photo
  • After using the DSx we produced predictions that were approximately 1% more accurate which may seem low but is extremely hard in machine learning.
  • We improved our response rate by 20% as the projects were more organized.
