Alteryx
I wish I had found and used Alteryx Analytics years ago. Having multiple data sources with a variety of naming conventions for our businesses we spent WEEKS cleaning/reorganizing/renaming fields in our data to be able to consolidate. We did this on one set of reports for one use. Each time we wanted an update this process would need to be repeated. This took tons of useless admin time. Had we had Alteryx we could have created 1 identifier, noted all the different naming conventions or issues, selected the ones we wanted and created the workflow to use it over and over and over again on any data we wanted. Build once - use multiple times. It would have been (and now is) a HUGE time saver. Plus any new anomalies are identified by the program as errors so you can "autocorrect" them in the same workflow. Alteryx is a miracle in my opinion.

QlikView
I can't recommend QlikView enough for a small shop on a shoestring budget--with one technical user administering things, all your users can have a really nice, super useful data exploration tool. The burden is certainly on that one user, but the payback is immense considering the price (free!). Solutions like Tableau and Qlik's new product, Qlik Sense, are certainly prettier and less demanding in terms of UI design, but they can't touch QlikView in terms of value.

Pros
Alteryx
- Alteryx does a great job of allowing more beginner Analysts to automate many of their routine process but also allowing advanced Analysts to ability to leverage deep statistical modelling for predictive analytics.
- Given the visual workflow nature of Alteyrx, the learning curve is not steep.
- The Alteryx Gallery allows non-technical consumers to execute complex workflows by leveraging an intuitive web interface.
- Alteryx allows data scientists to bring their own programming language to Altyerx, such as R or Python.

- QlikView allows you make data-backed visualization very easily. The format of these visualizations is completely up to you and your team.
- QlikView can show your data in many type of graphs as well as show the actual numbers associated with graphical points.
- We use QlikView to access data on Microsoft SQL Server, but other data sources are supported. Check out the QlikView documentation to determine if they can use data in formats that you need to perform analysis on.

Alteryx
- Sometimes the desktop version of authoring tool crashes! It's been unstable in the previous versions but gets better. Even if it doesn't crash, it used to be slow or not responding.
- When running several version of database drivers in local machine or server, it is tricky to set up database connections. Often you have to figure out it by googling the problem and solution. There are not many knowledge bases from Alteryx.
- Alteryx project file creates .bak file automatically. It is useful to prevent for the purpose of back up, sometimes it's not necessary. But it is not changeable for some reason. By default, it always creates backups.

- Qlikview has its own database and management system. Developers are required to build a new data model to get data into Qlikview.
- Qlikview's web application requires significant memory and processing power from the browser. Complex dashboards can crash your browser if you're running too many things at once.
- Qlikview dashboards look relatively outdated.

We've developed a working partnership with Alteryx. As an enablement suite, we're continuing to innovate and deliver great products with use of Alteryx in our solutions. Alteryx use expands to our global product development teams and is in use in multiple parts of our organization. Alteryx also delivers Experian demographic content to other clients in their product offering. We're highly likely to renew, but that decision is way above my pay grade.

Ease of use, ability to load from pretty much any data source. today I created an application that loaded time sheets from excel that are not in a table format. With Qlik's "enable transformation steps" I was able to automate loads of multiple spreadsheets and multiple tabs easily. Could not do that with any other tool.

I found it very easy to use very quickly. Part of it had to do with the training I received from Alteryx and the other part was how intuitive the tool is out of the box. Highly recommended for analysts especially ones with little code experience. Helpful to build basic code skills.

Dashboards are easy to use. They are very Excel-like with HTML5 capabilities. Data visualization is good.
The system requires minimum training to get user up and running. It just takes one hour to get up and running with building basic dashboards and one all day session for sophisticated dashboard building. It is intuitive.
We see this in our user adoption. We went from 6 users/day consuming dashboards to over 200 in 1.5 years.
We have 40-50 power users authoring dashboards. They have development licenses. My team in IT used to have to build all dashboards. Our capacity has grown from 3 to 50. Most of these users are analyst types good in Excel. A few power users can write SQL to build QVD models

I use many programs and compared to others, Alteryx virtually never goes down, freezes up or gives an application error. Over a 4 year time period that I have used this program, any of these may have happened 3 times. It is an incredibly stable program that I feel completely confident in.

Good support, but could have used more when installing the server. Had a minor issue for a long time that took a lot of work to resolve. Other than that, there has been a lot of free training especially when brining on new designer license holders. Support is good overall.

There is really not much to it (the installation, that is). Once you get it installed, along with any of the add-ons (demographics, R, etc.), you are up and running almost immediately. There is really no additional setup. You can immediately begin blending data, running demographics, performing spatial queries, running predictive analysis, etc. And for many of these functions, the learning curve is quite easy.

"Implementation" can mean a few things... so I'm not sure that this is the answer you want.... but here it goes:To me, implementation means: "Is the user interface intuitive and can I produce meaningful reports with ease?"On that score, I'd say YES. The amount of training required was minimal and the results were powerful. The desktop implementation is a simple, "blank" interface just waiting for your creativity. The pre-populated templates give you a reasonable start to any project -- and a good set of objects to "play around with" if you're just getting started. Finally, note that the "implementation" I used was baked into QuickBooks 2016 Enterprise -- called "Advanced Reporting"..... That integration makes it ultra useful and simple.

Alternatives Considered
Alteryx
Talend is primarily for data integration and has quite advanced capabilities. But the user has to be more technical. Alteryx makes the process simple and any user can make use of its features.Tableau was a good choice for data visualization. We needed beautiful charts and ways to represent data. Alteryx falls short in this aspect.

We evaluated a lot of other products in the magic quadrant but primarily compared QV against Tableau. We initially wanted to go with Tableau because it was cheaper and a simpler product to learn and use but frankly, their sales person was horrible and was not willing to work with us on number of licences or price. Qlikview was a great alternative. The product was better and even though it was a little more expensive, the more flexible licensing arrangement made up for it

Return on Investment
Alteryx
- Alteryx does an excellent job of integrating consumer and spatial data to calculate and visualize things like locations within a certain drive-time radius.
- For visualization purposes I had to move the data to excel for some decent graphs.
- It can become very expensive.

- Generate quick reports for requirements that don't require complex calculations. ROI was fine, but Tableau software was much more intuitive for non-technical users on our team
- When putting Qlikview reports side by side with Tableau, we ended up delivering Tableau reports since they were quicker to generate and required no technical expertise
