It is a great departmental solution.

We feel that simple transactional use cases are the best for ThoughtSpot. Cases that would lend themselves to cubes with slicing and dicing. In healthcare, the more complex use cases are where I don't feel as comfortable. ThoughtSpot is about scale whereas some of those use cases are only in the 100s or maybe 1,000s of records.

Pros

  • Alteryx handles metadata really well. The tools are intuitive in their use.
  • For analytics Alteryx it is a great platform.
  • There are barely any software bugs in the product.
  • The error messages are actually helpful to debug modules.
  • If a load-balancing application is internally developed on top of Alteryx processing nationwide universes can be really fast.

  • Self-service. Other vendors like to cite self-service as within end users reach but not like ThoughtSpot. It is able to create a "Google-like" interface that all can understand, rather than just the trained Analyst.
  • Search. Vendors are starting to work with search in their products but ThoughtSpot was built with that in mind from the beginning.
  • Anomaly detection and advanced analytics. With SpotIQ, end users with very little training are able to take advantage of models that normally require specialized training.

Cons

  • Iterations/ looping/ interactive user interface creation is cumbersome for new users.
  • Missing prescriptive analytics modules.

  • On the backend data mapping can get very messy and needs to be constantly monitored
  • Importing an Excel or CSV file is not nearly as simple as it should be
  • More flexible graph options

We've developed a working partnership with Alteryx. As an enablement suite, we're continuing to innovate and deliver great products with use of Alteryx in our solutions. Alteryx use expands to our global product development teams and is in use in multiple parts of our organization. Alteryx also delivers Experian demographic content to other clients in their product offering. We're highly likely to renew, but that decision is way above my pay grade.

Through a graphical UI one can perform engineering and development, other vendors do not have such a code-less interface.

Very easy and friendly to users. The learning curve is steep but most employees do not need to use the advanced functionality to produce the reports that they want to create.

Reliability and Availability

I use many programs and compared to others, Alteryx virtually never goes down, freezes up or gives an application error. Over a 4 year time period that I have used this program, any of these may have happened 3 times. It is an incredibly stable program that I feel completely confident in.

Implementation

Alteryx Analytics10.0
Based on 1 answer
There is really not much to it (the installation, that is). Once you get it installed, along with any of the add-ons (demographics, R, etc.), you are up and running almost immediately. There is really no additional setup. You can immediately begin blending data, running demographics, performing spatial queries, running predictive analysis, etc. And for many of these functions, the learning curve is quite easy.

Alternatives Considered

Alteryx is in a world of its own compared to other products I've used or tested. Previous to this software, I mainly used MapInfo Pro or ArcMap, but they are quite different. Obviously MapInfo and ArcMap have the upper hand when it comes to visualiztaion while Alteryx wins out in terms of ease-of-use and quick data analysis.

While Thoughtspot runs on "keyword search" technology, it needs the users to import data and build the data model in thoughtspot which creates a duplicate copy of your data mart. Answer Rocket uses "NLP (Natural Language Processing)" to work on your existing database and while the queries may be a little slow it does not create the need to load, store and maintain a duplicate copy of your data mart.

Collaboration and Sharing

Alteryx Analytics7.2

It is very easy to share the platform with a given set of users which makes collaboration really easy. Access control makes it easier for us to give access to different teams for viewing some of the parts with which they might be working without having to worry about the rest getting disturbed.

Thoughtspot is a web based tool that offers a search bar so essentially everything is shared depending on your access level however thoughtspot also offers the capability to download PDFs and csv-s to be shared across your team.

I love Alteryx where it can merge data from multiple data sources. The output options are amazing and we can analyze the data however we want.

While thoughtspot supports basic ODBC drivers it is highly complex to move data to the thoughtspot box for any kind of analysis since thoughtspot does not run on your RDBMS system. To get thoughspot to do what it is good at a lot of investment needs to go into data modeling to deliver the right data model that makes analysis easy.

Return on Investment

  • Definitely increased employee efficiency.
  • The company was able to offer more products to better serve the customers. Site selection with a click, more detailed segmentation, etc.
  • The program itself made the job more enjoyable. The ease of the software and also "Lego"-like interface made going to work fun.

  • Have not had the product long enough to measure a ROI
