Amazon Chime

Because of the consistent and unending inconveniences and difficulties we have had with Amazon Chime, I am not likely at all to ever recommend this solution. Having a call/meeting software solution is essential to our sales cycle because most of our meetings have to happen through a computer, and if this solution is weak then it negatively effects everything. Our prospects have had a lot of difficulty connecting to calls and some meetings have been canceled altogether because of this.

Trello

It is excellent for multiple groups or users with multiple activities at any one time, or for a single user wanting to have several project sections going on at any one time. It enables the user to keep things separate but all contained within a single portal, but it can become quite cumbersome relatively quickly. The bigger the organisation, the more consideration needs to be given to how exactly Trello is used to give the users the best experience, or even if multiple instances of the platform is necessary.

Pros

  • One of the few things that Amazon Chime does well is scheduling calls with Gmail. It's pretty easy to do.
  • Another thing Amazon Chime does will is basic functions like muting and unmuting the mic and screensharing.

  • Trello is very effective at allowing a user to organize ideas in a personal fashion. Yes, the software has constraints in which you must work, but the card-based concept is easily accepted by an user who has every written ideas on scraps of paper.
  • Trello is available as a mobile app, a Mac app and as a website so the software adapts to and leverages the advantages of the platform on which you are currently work.
  • Trello also allows easy updates via email so ideas don't have to be filed for later action. Receive an emailed request and forward it directly to the appropriate Trello board.
  • Trello is very good when collaborating with users who are outside your organization, don't have a company email address or are on the other side of the world.

Cons

  • Amazon Chime is not user friendly. People who we have meetings with who have never used Amazon Chime regularly have difficulty connecting to the call, especially if the call is international.
  • You have to download Amazon Chime to share your screen. When we need our prospects to share their screen for a product training, asking them to download a meeting software is awkward and not smooth.

  • Trello is not as robust a product for the Windows environment, although the web interface is as functional as most users will need.
  • Trello does not make it easy to completely delete content. The archive function is useful but sometimes you just want to get rid of something completely.
  • Trello does note currently offer an offline editing function which would be very useful.

It does everything we need it to do to manage users and content as it progresses, but could do with more improvements too such as notifications or remote notifications. We have no reason to move for now!

There aren't many features to Trello, but that is why it is so intuitive and easy to use.

For our small business, getting a few of us started well on Trello was the key, I think. As long as a couple of us were really comfortable with the interface, we could lead others and help them with any questions. From now on, anyone who works with us just naturally uses Trello for information sharing - it's just part of what we do.

Alternatives Considered

I have used GoToMeeting, which is a major competitor to Amazon Chime, and I can confidently say that GoToMeeting is literally ten times better. We rarely have any of the issues with GoToMeeting that we do with Amazon Chime. I highly recommend GoToMeeting over Amazon Chime because your meetings and demos will go much smoother and the user interface is much cleaner.

Redbooth is probably the most comparable product out there. I've reviewed this product and tested it against Trello. Redbooth is very robust with some additional very attractive features. It also integrates well with Google for business platforms and SharePoint. It works very much like Trello but with a lot of additional ways to report and track tasks. We chose Trello because it keeps everything simple and the price point was a better match for what we were looking for.

Return on Investment

  • Positive - easy communication with the chat room feature for all teams (15+) throughout our campus.
  • Positive - user-friendly and easy to navigate so we weren't hindered with the transition.
  • Positive - Amazon Chime allows you to call in via the phone if a computer is not available. We are always on the go and phones are all that are available.

  • It is free so the initial investment is almost zero, the benefits are many when organizing your work and increase your productivity.
  • If you want to use Trello in a small or large company, I recommend using the paid version to have all the functionalities available. The investment would be minimal since it is very economical.
  • Highly recommended, in my company has brought us great benefits by increasing the productivity of the development team.
