We use Amazon Simple Email Service to auto-respond to users that submit messages through a contact form. We are using Amazon Simple Email Service with our self hosted python application to send our marketing emails, get feedback for our services, and Hackathons.

We've used Microsoft 365 for our business presentations and pitchbooks and the tools are incredibly well suited. It's easy to make a very professional and eloquent presentation quickly. We also love the Outlook Calendar integration across our team members and planning and scheduling has been very effortless and easy. We haven't utilized OneDrive as much due to our own firm having this capability and the cyber security threat of keeping things in the cloud.

Pros

Amazon SES

  • Amazon Simple Email Service is a much lower cost than most other solutions and truly makes cost a non-factor in most situations where we consider implementing it.
  • The API is so well documented that implementing Amazon Simple Email Service in nearly any application or codebase is achievable with basic coding knowledge.

  • Outlook integration: as mentioned in the rest of the review, working with documents, spreadsheets, etc. in Outlook is seamless. Previewing an Excel doc instead of opening can be a lifesaver when there are already 15 windows of Excel open!
  • Aesthetics: while not the most important feature of any software, appearance can go a long way to make the experience feel less like a chore, and can also contribute to usability for a newer user.
  • Time Management: Outlook works with Calendars, Teams, and Contact books to make meeting scheduling and execution easy, but with 365, the cloud focus allows even greater flexibility for someone working from home or calling into a meeting remotely.
  • Memory management: on the more technical side, 365 manages the CPU and RAM of the user's machine in a way that isn't wasteful, and I personally have experienced far fewer crashes in cloud-based documents.

Cons

Amazon SES

  • Even if you do not want to spam, you cant send an email to the unverified users.
  • Integration with other services is a bit tricky. To watch the trail, handle bounced emails, save emails on S3 are not straightforward to implement.
  • When you want to send a lot of emails (in bulk), it takes a significant amount of time.

  • More user control in SharePoint with better UI will really benefit this platform.
  • Granting Access to outside users to certain OneDrive functionality with person OneDrive app will be beneficial.
  • A program similar to Webex to conduct the virtual meeting (to include people from outside the organization) will be great.

Because we have most of the business suite programs, if not all, installed on our laptops already, using these products are extremely easy. They work seamlessly in our workflow and it does not feel like having to open new programs each time. Everything works under one umbrella, and thus the overall usability is rated quite high in our organization

The Office 365 web-based application is very well designed and performance, in general, is usually great. While there can be a lag at times (especially on a slow internet connection), a number of elements are cached locally to speed up access. Compared to other web-based applications (especially Google's G Suite), Office 365 performance is usually significantly better - especially when dealing with large files such as spreadsheets. Office 365 web-mail is surprisingly quick and feature rich.

We did not have the need of contacting Amazon for support. The documentation they provide is of great quality. Examples are easy to follow. One thing to have into consideration is we didn't have the premium support for AWS, so I can't provide details on how good or bad this service is, but in general, the basic support I had was great.

It simply works. The team at Microsoft is improving the suite release after release. Personally, I've installed the apps on several devices (More than 10, using Windows, Mac, Android & iOS) and the ease of use was the common denominator. I only ran into a problem one time with a very early version of Microsoft Teams, but the IT team quickly got support from Microsoft and I got the app running again with a very short delay,

Alternatives Considered

We have used a dozen services. They are almost all more expensive. Some force you to wait one week to approve/deny your account if they suspect that the email database is not legal. I have very important clients with legal databases that were rejected by other companies and could send emails from Amazon SES without problems.

Both have similar interfaces, but in terms of functionality Office 365 obviously is the best. Also Office 365 lets you add more options and have a bigger catalogue of templates and resources to make the documents faster than we thought, actually there is a store where you can find infinite templates for a lot of topics and themes. Also the addition of Microsoft Teams in the suite is the better choice for the management of your projects and developments. The text manipulation is other point for Office 365, due in WPS is a bit worse and difficult to set up, the graphics and art is better than the WPS.

Return on Investment

Amazon SES

  • SES is still more cost effective than other email services like Mailgun.
  • Unless we have a high-traffic month, staying within the free tier is very nice for our bottom line.
  • Not having to spend time worrying about SES reliability saves us frustration and money.

  • The overall impact has been positive for my organization. If we didn't have Microsoft 365, I really believe no one could get their work done efficiently and as good as it currently is.
  • Again, the biggest positive impact it has played is the collaboration and accessibility it allows. I really can't think of any negative impacts other than financially if the product and service aren't priced competitively.
