Amazon SES

If you are looking for a no fuss, functional email delivery engine at a very low cost, Amazon SES is great. But, there is a learning curve, the documentation is often dense and many times, you yearn for a simple GUI, while setting up your interface. SES has barebones analytics - virtually none. It also does not do list management. Mapping bounces to SNS is not very intuitive either. If you are sending embedded images, you need to load them from external servers.

SendinBlue

If you send emails or SMS messages to client lists, especially newsletters then I prefer SendinBlue to many other competitors as their pricing was simply better for the value. If you need RSS to Email where your Blog RSS Feed auto delivers to email subscribers then this service is not a fit as this feature is not supported. This service also doesn't have features to auto notify/send out an online newsletter to social media.

Cons

  • Could maintain a dashboard with the list of previously sent emails and their templates.
  • Amazon Simple Email Service dashboard could be made more user-friendly by including few HTML snippets so that they are readily available for testing.
No photo available
  • Support -- no phone support :(
  • Automation - good start, but the system is limited and clunky. If & else work, but other common constructs are missing.
  • Email support is slow, and not terribly helpful

I am a web designer and systems admin. I have not found anything with this system that was hard to use. Other systems make it hard to do simple tasks and is very limiting. SendinBlue doesn't limit you.

If you follow all the steps of the setup process they give you, any one can set this up in about 1 - 2 hours.

Alternatives Considered

Amazon SES is bare-bones, insofar as it will not "help" you with the contents of your message. You cannot use variables in the e-mail, it will not automatically track whether or not the recipient opened the mail or not, it will not help with unsubscribe links, and it will not generate and manage web-based copies of the e-mail. That said, it gives the developer full control of the messages.Pricing, again, is the killer feature here. SES is cheaper than every single e-mail delivery provider I have ever encountered.

MailChimp is simply too expensive. They offer slightly better features, but the price difference doesn't stack up against that.

They have multiple options for upgrading bigger senders or if you need more emails sent in a month.

Return on Investment

  • All positive things. The fact that we can send tens of thousands of e-mails per month for less than $5 is incredible. Find a better price for something even remotely as high-quality as SES.
  • SES provides a set-and-forget way of handling e-mail. Drop in the credentials, and your developers will never have to mess with it again.

  • Send in Blue has had a positive impact on our ROI with increased sales.
  • SendinBlue has saved us £70 per month from £110 with mailchimp to around £30-£40.
  • We are able to more quickly create campaigns than with Mailchimp
