Useful for collaborating across multiple teams on data projects. Also great for distributed workflows which require more processing power than a local machine. Less useful for quick exploratory analysis. Need to host datasets outside of local

Salesforce Analytics

SAC is well suited for large, diverse sales teams that cover multitudes of different markets and customers and you want to make sure they are all on the same page. It is also important that all of the accumulated knowledge of the entire sales force (that in their minds and on their computers) is gathered and stored in a SINGLE SOURCE location for the company to utilize. If you do not have a master database that is updated constantly the information leaves when the salesman retires or quits. If you have a small number of salesmen then the cost per license can get high and ELT members question the investment.

An implementation partner would certainly result in greater output in a more efficient amount of time. However, I have found implementation partners to be extremely expensive for the output received (at least working for a non-profit company they are frequently unaffordable). Internal implementation does help with usable output though since internal knowledge would better know the data architecture and business processes

Alternatives Considered

Anaconda is way easier to set-up. On Anaconda we have users working on Machine Learning in minutes, where on PyCharm is takes a lot longer to set-up and often involves getting help from IT. PyCharm is easier to integrate with Code repositories (such as GitHub), so if that's very important to you, you might want to take a look at PyCharm

It's best for simple quick analytics. For more complex insights it takes a bit of manipulating. Salesforce Analytics Cloud is in its infancy, but the fact that it is built on the Salesforce platform is a big plus for any institution/organization using salesforce as its primary CRM. The ability to natively report and build analytics components on top of existing SFDC data is a huge plus without the need for any integration tools. Knowledge of JSON is also invaluable to integrate other data sources and edit the SFDC

As I stated before, the ease of access and the ability to share data across teams is pivotal. When not just your single team relies on the information you're providing, the entire organization can look into the numbers and data to gather intel instead of putting together too many meetings. Creating a single source of information, can be overwhelming, but it allows others to see into what exactly is going on at all times...getting real time updates as well.

The ease of merging data from multiple sources is critical especially when you're gathering different data from multiple sources inside a company. By having a system that can incorporate many lines of data from other sources takes the pain out of data. When you can reduce down that time by 5x, this makes the presenting cases simple and not over complicating anything.

Return on Investment

  • Centralized repository for all notebooks and analysis projects.
  • Solved for some security concerns from IT.
  • Saves money by avoiding ad-hoc computer resources for analysts.
