Sales performance management, various finance scenarios - Anaplan is good for automating calculations. It is less appropriate for very complex business cases.

Aspect Workforce Management

While I think this software could provide value to any company, the value would be less for very small companies. If you have a call center with 50 agents or less, for example, the value just may not be worth the time and investment. Though this software can be utilized for off-phone employees, it is designed for the call center in mind. Therefore, if you just want software to manage back-office employees you would not need or benefit as greatly from having the entire Aspect Workforce Management suite.

Pros

  • Real - time - the cloud based technology allows all changes & its impact is visible in real time.
Szilvia Havasreti profile photo
  • Scheduling: The software not only provides ways to perform bulk scheduling and quick changes to hundreds (or thousands) of individuals at a time, it also provides optimizers for breaks, meetings, and projects; as well as shift and request bids, and a request management feature that allows automatic scheduling of vacation like segments without any user intervention after the initial setup.
  • Forecasting: The software provides many different ways to forecast. You can use user-supplied data or historical patterns. In addition, you can perform as many 'what-if' scenarios are you like to see how changes will affect your forecast and see how real-time schedule changes will impact the intra-day forecast before proceeding.
  • Adherence: The software provides several different adherence views. You can utilize RTA (Real-Time Adherence) to see what states your agents are in on the phone, as well as if they are adhering to their schedules. In addition, you can also access reports and a real-time comparison of schedules to ACD states in the core software. Agents are also able to see their historical adherence reports within a web based client, Empower.
  • Reporting: The software has a multitude of reports which can be set up with a feature called autorun to be automatically e-mailed or exported to a directory however often you need them to be. The filtering capabilities are vast, and if you have crystal reports you can create your own custom reports as well.
  • Security: The security features in the software are very detailed and advanced. Almost everything can be locked down, even the smallest of features. For example, if you do not want an agent to see bereavement in a schedule you can lock that. As many profiles can be created as are necessary.
  • Empower: The Empower module is a web-based application that provides wonderful functionality for agents and supervisors alike. Agents can view their schedules and make requests for schedule changes. They can also see their adherence, and even their personal account balances.

Cons

  • Errors handling. If you make a mistake in formula, the model might freeze for all users for several minutes.
  • Multistage calculations may cause the app to work slowly.
  • Too few functions are yet available. Tons of simple actions are really hard to implement in some cases including PRODUCT, VLOOKUP and CASE SELECT.
  • Bugs that were reported months ago are not fixed.
  • Really poor technical support. There are only 5 or so tech support guys globally and you have to wait for their answer sometimes for too long. Mostly they only give you temporary workarounds because of the bugs that won't be fixed in the nearest future.
  • No Android app.
  • End users have no interface settings at all. Only administrators may save export views and all the useful tune-ups.
  • No friendly interface to edit user rights. When their quantity exceeds 30 or more changing the rights becomes a disaster.
Максим Шилиманов profile photo
  • Easier usability. Aspect has been working with Microsoft to make the platform look and feel more like any other MS Office Product, but there is much room for improvement.
  • Drag and Drop features would be a useful option. Allowing schedules to be modified by drag and drop segments, would improve the speed at which changes occur.
  • MS Outlook integration, where schedule changes can be emailed automatically to agents.

I don't think we could function without the collaboration capabilities built into Anaplan that replaced disparate Excel files in the workforce planning model

If I were in a position to use this type of software again, Aspect would be at the top of my list. The biggest factors I would consider would be the size and culture of the call center where it would be used.

Usability

Anaplan8.2
Based on 2 answers
There is a dependency in this rating - in that I find Anaplan extremely easy to use, but I've spent the necessary time developing a strong understanding of the platform. Once you understand how to use it, the platform is flexible, easy to use, and fun to use.

Once the initial set up of the software is complete and/or you are familiar with the software, it is easy to use and runs like a dream. However, if you are unfamiliar with the software or have used a competitor's product, some features can seem difficult to learn or get used to.

Reliability and Availability

In nearly 3 years, I have only had 1 issue of being unable to access my model for an unplanned maintenance. Even planned maintenance windows are handled during low traffic hours on the weekend.

Performance

Anaplan9.0
Based on 1 answer
Everything is calculated in memory in the cloud. It's nearly instantaneous updates when you make changes. The only time things get a little slow is when you have a massive model with very intricate calculations...but "slow" for Anaplan is not what I would call "slow" for something like Hyperion. We used to have Hyperion calcs that ran for 60 mins before you could use data. The equivalent would be 60 seconds in Anaplan.

Support

Anaplan8.1
Based on 2 answers
I feel like the support team is a little lacking in product knowledge. Several times I have contacted them to get help, and ended up finding a solution to my own problem before the team could get back to me with anything useful. I have also submitted a few bugs, and never got updates to when they were fixed in later releases.

I was impressed with the support I received. There were never any long delays when I had issues and the representatives that I worked with were always patient and eager to fully understand not only my problem but our business processes surrounding the problem.

In-Person Training

Anaplan3.0
Based on 1 answer
The in-person training is simply not worth the cost. After a few weeks of playing in Anaplan, I went to the basic training and knew more than the person teaching it. a year down the road, I was the first person to complete the advance training, and again could have been teaching the class better than the person running the session. Spend some time on your own trying out different things and you will get all the understanding you need to be successful.

Online Training

Anaplan5.0
Based on 1 answer
I'm giving this a 5 simply for the anapedia outline of calculations. The online videos and trainings leave a lot to be desired, but having anapedia around to help you understand calculations has been helpful. The drawback to anapedia is the depth they go into for calculations, it is lackluster at times. Because of that, I have been working through a much more in-depth look at each calculation on my website for users to reference: http://www.anaplanguru.com/formulas/

Implementation

Anaplan6.7
Based on 12 answers
I won't rate this low due to the 3rd party consultant, because overall the implementation with Anaplan went great. We had working models in our first month of having Anaplan, and have been able to branch out into multiple facets of the business in the 3 years since our first implementation.
Joe Bradbury profile photo
Aspect Workforce Management9.0

Implementation of the software was not difficult but it was tedious for us due to the fact that our processes had not kept up with the times and we had to make a large number of process changes along with setting up the software.

Alternatives Considered

Anaplan was selected by management without technical expertise. Now there is no way back.
Максим Шилиманов profile photo
This was the first and only scheduling software that I had any experience with. I was not involved in the selection process, only the implementation and on going support.

Scalability

Anaplan7.0
Based on 1 answer
It's going to handle most of what you can throw at it. The problem lies in the sparsity of some datasets. When you have over 5ish dimensions of sparse data, the size of the model gets bloated for not much value. In several cases, I have had to adapt my model to account for sparsity in a way that minimized use of space, but also made interacting with the data more cumbersome.

Return on Investment

  • Workforce Planning efficiency - so much easier than excel to maintain sensitive information planning
  • Long range plan lead time - the old excel model took weeks to update. The Anaplan model takes hours
Joe Bradbury profile photo
  • The workforce management team was able to decrease the cycle time forecasting, staffing and scheduling staff; resulted in higher employee engagement
  • The scenario based planning enabled us to develop a more accurate call volume forecast thus staffing the contact centers appropriately; approximately $500k savings realized in labor expenses (reduced FTE headcount, while meeting the same level of service level measures)
  • Improved customer experience due to staffing the call center properly (answered 80 percent of our calls within 20 seconds)
