Pros

  • Expose APIs for seamless use internally and by customer developers.
  • Improve rapid development processes.
  • Provide end to end monitoring that helps improve overall quality and aid in troubleshooting.

  • Informatica is a complex, full-featured data integration tool. We use Informatica primarily to extract data from our ERP systems, transform, and load it into operational and dimensional data stores.

Cons

  • Redefining API design is cumbersome and painful.
  • Batch transacting is not as intuitive as would be expected.
Thomas Green III profile photo
  • Scheduling: The built-in scheduling tool has many constraints such as handling Unix/VB scripts etc. Most enterprises use third party tools for this.
  • Several partnerships diminishing the value of technologies
  • Unable to get list of objects from Repository (like sources & targets) that don't have any dependency

Alternatives Considered

It enables customers to expose their APIs in a very simple and fast way. It can be used by non-expert developers. It is compliant with all major connection and data representation world standard.

While Talend offers a much more comfortable interface to work with, Informatica's forte is performance. And on that front, Informatica Enterprise Data Integration certainly leaves Talend in the dust. For a more back-end-centric use case, Informatica is certainly the ETL tool of choice. On the other hand, if business users would be using the tool, then Talend would be the preferred tool.

Return on Investment

  • We noticed a new way for integrating REST services interacting with mobile application (IOS/Android based).
  • Our customer appreciated our work.
  • Our customer appreciated having a very solid production environment while not needing to spend money to maintain it.

  • Informatica allows us to achieve complex data integration among our systems and into our data warehouse environment. Without this tool in place, hours of manual manipulation would occur to integrate this data and extract it into the appropriate DW solution.
