Apache Web Server

If you are only serving up simple websites such as those on WordPress or plain html, then it might be well suited for that. Higher traffic websites or heavy load websites might be better suited for Nginx server as it spreads out the traffic among several threads.

As I said, in my experience (I've tried different competitors SW) TIBCO is the best suited SW for SOA integration.Nowaday the business is moving to a different vision of integration and it's moving from SOA to Microservices. In this field, TIBCO still have to improve even if with the Container Edition the trend is good.

  • It provides a palette which makes it very easy to map data from one format to another and do calculations or transformations as part of the mapping.
  • The pallets make it easy to get different listeners and publishers stood up very quickly.
  • It is easy to deploy and manage on application across multiple machines.
  • It provides consistent code across multiple development teams, as there are code is presented as an activity which is simple dragged and dropped.

Cons

  • Apache web server uses thread based processing which has some ove head when compared to newer web servers.

  • BW 5.x and the run-time agent both feel very dated, though this has been addressed with BW 6.x.
  • BW 5.x is not as friendly to CI, though this has been addressed with BW 6.x.
  • While the tool doesn't require specific programming language knowledge, it is still necessary to become familiar with BusinessWorks which is most effective with training. This does require that developers to have knowledge of the tool and has lead to some difficulties finding skilled software developers.

We have been a long partner with TIBCO and used much range of their products. So far, we are satisfied with their product performance and level of support to their customer. Their product reliability is very important to support our main business area and coverage. Therefore, likely we are using the TIBCO product until now.

TIBCO Businessworks is the one of the best ESB in the market. The version V5 is missing the JSON / RestFul functionnalities. So
Going to version 6 to remedy this, seems to me a relevant continuity

For creating new process, you have lots of palettes to do every develop you need. For created process it is easy to understand even if you have ever seen before it. You can analyze your process in all their detail.User Experience is positive for beginner and expertise people. Just debug mode is still raw, but better in TIBCO BusinessWorks 6.x than TIBCO BusinessWorks 5.x .

Alternatives Considered

I've used Microsoft's IIS and IBM's HTTP server. The major and a clear advantage of Apache web server over these products is that it’s free and has no licensing issues. Being in the industry for quite sometime (oldest web server) a lot of products and customizations have been made possible to suit customer needs in addition to having a large and very supportive user community.

Having used Webmethods, Intellio and Mulesoft, I find TIBCO BusinessWorks more stable and easy to manage. TIBCO BusinessWorks Container Edition looks promising for cloud and containerized environments like any other new generation product.
