Apigee has worked well for us to digitize the enterprise and share services readily to any interested party. It works very well for third party integration to provide services on multiple platforms. It is great product for expanding your enterprise's horizon and being involved in the digital world of today.

Loading multiple sources, transforming data, moving date from one org to another. We also receive a non profit discount as a university which helps make the tool affordable for us. We are exploring it to move data from our customer relationship management system to our student information system or system of record

Pros

  • Manage user access, we can allow specific access to users based on their need and even customize requests of services based on user requirements.
  • Allow branding, so that SFO can maintain its look and feel but still get the support and functionalities we need from Apigee.
  • Integrates well with other platforms we use.

  • Mapping spreadsheet columns to object fields is very intuitive and easy to figure out
  • Very speedy, considering the amount of information I am inputting. Pushes a list of failures with detailed reasons, which allows me to go back and fix as needed
  • I felt extremely comfortable using the software within about 2 days... It was very easy to learn
  • Infinitely easier to understand than the stock Salesforce data loader

Cons

  • Only one user can be active in a proxy at a time
  • No version control
  • Prohibited from using JSON.stringify on Apigee objects (tokens)
  • Debugging is difficult
  • Unable to rename or delete policies without bumping revision
  • Why would anyone give a js policy one name, display name something else, and script a different name?
  • 'Trace' limited to only 20 transactions
  • UI allows users to add target servers, but users must utilize the api to turn on SSL.
  • I'm sure there's more, they just aren't coming to mind right now.
  • Apigee forgets (expires?) your password at random intervals without notice. Every few weeks, or days, sometimes even three times in one day, I'll attempt to login to Apigee and my password will be 'wrong'. I've reset my password and Apigee still claims it's wrong. I've had to reset my password three times before it finally let me log back in.

  • Mapping fields could provide a link to explain what the field is in more detail
  • Hard to visualize the impact that your mapping will have, might be helpful to load in object IDs and lay out the old value and what the new value stands to be

Without Jitterbit I would spend a TON more time on manual data entry. It is a simple fact that this frees up a lot of time to focus on more involved tasks like analysis or interacting with co-workers/customers.

Alternatives Considered

Amazon API's gateway does not have easy to set up policies and exception handling. It does not have a tracking mechanism. However, it is better to use AWS API's gateway if you have tight integration with AWS tools.

Honestly we didn't evaluate too many other middle ware products, at least that i am aware of its possible our system architect did without my input. But we were given a trial of JitterBit a very good training session and decided it was a perfect fit for us and it has been a great product purcahse for us

Return on Investment

  • Unruly, difficult to maintain, unable to test, difficult to troubleshoot and debug. Every ticket that requires Apigee work increases stress and anxiety.
