Good quality video conferencing with a small group of people.

Huddle

If you must simultaneously edit documents on a project, Huddle is not a good option. Also, if your team is not technically savvy, the learning curve can be challenging. Finally, if you need hundreds or thousands of people working on a project, Huddle might not be the right choice. I think it is better for teams under 100 people.

Pros

  • Easy to use: The app is very, very easy to use. Literally just create a chat room (input a name) and access it to chat.
  • Call/video quality: I've experienced better call quality on appear.in than in almost all other chat and video conferencing services out there.

  • Huddle allows users to use the native document file types. For example, Word files are still in a Word, not a "Huddle" file version.
  • Huddle workspaces are invitation-only. If someone should not be in the workspace, they will not be invited and provided access to the documents. Or, they can be removed from the workspace if needed.
  • Communication about documents is located with the documents in a discussion thread under the document preview. Thus, email inbox clutter can be limited.

Cons

  • Feature-wise, none that I can think of.
Hernán Silva profile photo
  • The approval feature could use an automated workflow/process option. It could allow approvals to be automatically sent from one reviewer to the next in a sequence.
  • It would be great if Google Docs could be uploaded into Huddle. The version I use does not allow for this capability.
  • A feature to allow simultaneous editing would be useful. Locking files should be a feature that is retained, but the users should have the ability to choose which one they want to use.

We are using a larger tool suite that already includes video conferencing instead of our older approach of using different apps from different vendors.appear.in has a simple but great set of features but its pricing scheme is not as scalable as we really need in a 500+ employee company.

Very easy to use, technical and non-technical colleagues have used it with no instructions needed. That says all about the app and services.

Alternatives Considered

appear.in was the least expensive alternative at the time my company used it. It included the right set of features for what we needed.

Huddle is quite different from Tibbr. They serve different purposes for the most part. However, they both allow colleagues to improve their communication with one another, minimize email inbox clutter, and improve processes. We use both of these in our organization. Huddle has allowed us to store documents, share communication and generally work in the cloud.

Return on Investment

  • It helped us to connect our team across continents in a very affordable way.
Hernán Silva profile photo
  • People across the world are able to collaborate on projects more effectively.
  • Approvals are streamlined, making the process of doing business quicker.
  • Training employees throughout the organization on the Huddle features was challenging for our large organization.
