Apple iCloud

It is great if you are a die-hard Apple user. It integrates virtually every aspect of Apple products among different devices, making it super easy to share things. It fails pretty hard when tasked with other product types (such as Microsoft), and I have found it rather difficult to manage since it seems to take over so forcefully.

When working on larger scale projects that require collaboration among teams and team members, Microsoft 365 is well suited. It's great to support large enterprises and to be used organization-wide. An area where it might not be as needed or necessary is smaller scale projects and tasks that involve very few people. That's not to say it wouldn't still be helpful, but it may just be unnecessary.

Pros

Apple iCloud

  • Data sharing.
  • Data storage of Apple-related file types.
  • Great integration with apple products.

Microsoft 365 Business

  • The whole solution that provides a program for all of your basic to intermediate day to day business needs.
  • Programs that function seamlessly together with formatting that works the same across the board.
  • Controls and features that are common across multiple programs make them easier to learn, use, and teach new users.

Cons

Apple iCloud

  • Weak to non-existent shared multi-user storage. i.e. "Here's a shared collection of presentations we all use".
  • Built-in iCloud support on an app-by-app basis is necessary to achieve "super seamless" workflow. Without that, it's just Apple's brand of a cloud-synced folder.

  • If you buy the Premium version, you will get access to the web version of Outlook. While this is useful for basic checking of emails, it is fairly limited in some respects:
  • - It's hard to see any folders you use in the desktop version of Outlook. So if you've put an email in a folder, it is difficult to search for it.
  • - If you open an email thread in the web version of Outlook, it will mark all emails in that thread as unread in the desktop version of Outlook. Not very useful.
  • There's almost too much choice! If you buy the premium versions, you get access to a tonne of software, such as Delve, Sway and Teams. I know some of these are good, but I'm not too familiar with most of them.
  • It would be handy if each product had a little 30 second introduction, plus a quick tutorial on how to set it up. There's a lot to learn!
  • This is a very minor one, but you can't create a circle shape in PowerPoint! You can create an oval shape, and turn it into a circle. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems a bit odd.
  • I'd like Microsoft to modernise the desktop version of Outlook. The other day, I tried to set up an automatic add of a BCC to every email created (so it would be copied to our CRM). There is seemingly no way to do this, even with VBScript.

It's so seamless that I can't imagine another product doing a better job synchronizing all of my devices. I simply do not think about it at all. Everything happens behind the scenes and I'm confident that Apple keeps my data safe and secure. I'm a happy customer as far as this is concerned. I have not had a bad experience with this service.

Apple iCloud is very easy to use. Even without prior exposure a new user can quickly learn the ins and outs of Apple iCloud. Like many of Apple's products, Apple iCloud is very intuitive. I do think that the folder organization through the online user interface could be improved, but I'm normally on my Mac so it doesn't really impact me

Apple iCloud generally works pretty flawlessly when using it within the Apple ecosystem. There have been a few times that I have noticed the online user interface of Apple iCloud to load rather slowly. I would imagine that this also depends on other factors such as, internet connection quality and the type of stored data that's being retrieved

Microsoft 365 Business at times has difficulty with synchronization between offline and online programs. It's possible to fix these issues as they come up, and it doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Support

Apple gives pretty miserable support unless you pay a lot to have the support packages. Usually, it is more helpful to do a Google search of the issue, but at that point, it isn't product support, it's just me doing the job myself. Other programs seem to have much better, and free, support.

Alternatives Considered

Apple iCloud

Google Drive is great and it offers way more free storage than Apple iCloud, however, Google is known for sharing their user's data much more freely than Apple. To some people, this might not be a big deal. I prefer to pay a few dollars for added security. Dropbox is a different situation in that it offers less free storage space than Apple. Dropbox also integrates very well with many different services, but Apple has been rapidly improving in this area.

Microsoft 365 Business

Microsoft 365 Business is more robust than Google's suite of enterprise applications and services, but that doesn't necessarily make it better. It really depends on the individual organization. G Suite is more geared at communication and collaboration. Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Meet are fantastic cloud-based tools for many companies. It worked very well for a large educational institution that I previously worked for. However, Google does not offer products to compete with Dynamics CRM, PowerApps, etc...
