Apptio Cloudability vs. Azure Cost Management

Apptio Cloudability is well suited for cloud usage and reserved instance amortization reporting. The tool provides user friendly reporting of usage by organization, category, and account. It's also easy to filter data a variety of fields such as date, organization, and cost type. I would like to see more predictive forecasting capabilities within the tool. Overall, Apptio Cloudability is a great way to analyze cloud usage within your organization

A highly capable Azure Cloud platform and the best Cloud resource and cost management and data analytical capability are excellent. Azure Cost Management provides amazing capacity and performance analytics effectively and quite an easy tool Cloud efficiency optimization and its interface are very easy and friendly for the new users to get familiar with the tool easily.

• Financial reporting - canned reports along with easy drag and drop creation/modification tools.
• Optimization report - show specific areas where resources can be re-allocated to less expensive ones (lower cost CPU/storage/network/etc.)
• Governance reporting - lists out resources that have incomplete/missing tags on resources. This includes having application ID, environment type (Prod, Dev, Test), project code, etc.

• The conditional filters require too many clicks to use
• I don't trust the resource utilization data on the cost widgets. When I've looked at it, which has been sparingly, the data makes no sense for our environment.

usability is good

It took us a while to get started (a few months), mostly because of security- and access-related issues. Once we got the connectivity up and running, it was relatively straightforward. Navigation is fine, once you get used to the menu structure. We found some of the selections and menus a bit inflexible.

Compared to some of the other data reporting and visualation tools, Apptio Cloudability stacks up well. It is a very niche product but can be extended to do some cloud management and reporting fairly easily. For example getting emails based on a lack of asset tagging, right sizing suggestions based on resource usage. Some other tools like cloud custodian do offer a more developer friendly tool by allowing people to create policys through code but are not as feature rich as Apptio Cloudability.

• Greater visibility of allocation of spend, highlights areas to concentrate on for potential reductions, or justification
• Positive engagement with service owners from other departments so they are now able to have insights of their spend, this was not possible before without manual reports being generated form Azure portal
