(UPDATE: Please note that my review was for the Version 5 of their apps. They have recently updated 2 of their main apps to V6 which show a lot of improvements. The sad thing however is that many of their 40+ apps never even made to V5 let alone V6. V5 to V6 has taken over a year and only the core apps are getting attention.)

As it stands Apptivo is only useful for one person or sole trader type entities. If your business wants to use all the apps and works internationally then Apptivo will create headaches and frustration rather than increasing productivity. They may solve many of the 100+ items we provided them with free of charge in an upcoming release, but we left with a bad taste in our mouth. Countless hours lost in our business while we acted as bug finders for Apptivo while paying for the product.

The price point and full featured application of GreenRope makes it perfect for small and medium sized businesses. GreenRope is an excellent alternative to some of the higher priced, better known CRM systems (Infusionsoft, AWeber, Ontraport, etc.). If you have specific requirements for your industry or business, GreenRope support will help to ensure that you get set up properly with what you need

Pros

  • Built in support for new users.
  • Basic crm works...just dont expect it do anything well beyond the basic.
  • Price.
  • Google Apps integration is better than a lot of the competition who charge and anwful lot more.
  • They are open to and try adapt quickly based on customer feedback.

  • GreenRope provides a full-featured application at ALL pricing levels. You don't have to 'upgrade' to get better features - you've got them all right away. I really appreciated this!
  • GreenRope doesn't charge per user (i.e., administrator of the system). Other systems require additional fees when adding administrators to your account. GreenRope makes it easy for me to get help with the CRM by adding more of my people, without adding multiple fees.
  • Customer Service at GreenRope rocks! They really want to help you get started well. The training and set-up calls are fantastic. For any support issues that have come up (usually newbie questions!) I've always received a prompt response. I can't say enough about their support.
  • There are many ways for me to customize my data sets, for management and segmentation of contacts, specific to my industry and business needs.
  • Dashboard customization - as a visual learner, the presentation of information on my screen is important to me, and GreenRope allows me the ability to customize colours, icons, and sizes of things in my dashboard. This is helpful for my creativity and productivity.

Cons

  • Homescreen claims to be the center of the application however the sub sections are mostly flawed or do not function as one would expect.
  • The built in email client kinda works but depending on which section of the app you are in the default font will be different from your signature. Also you cannot add a cell phone to staff signatures. I asked about this for months. It was never fixed. When will CRM companies learn that email is STILL the center of many business. It is unacceptable to have different fonts in the same mail and signatures that change from client to client.
  • They frequently messed up our contact data.
  • Multi currency exists on invoices but not on other apps.
  • Fragmentation with their apps....some apps are still on version 3 some on 4 and some on version 5. This means you are forced to deal with 2 or more different user interfaces within the same app.
  • No consistency between the apps.
  • Often there is little or no integration between the apps inside Apptivo.

  • As we've never used a full-featured CRM before, there was a pretty steep learning curve on how to get our data in and working for us. The training GreenRope provides is helpful, but the user interface still took me a while to wrap my head around.
  • One assumption made during GreenRope setup was that we'd be relying heavily on a custom GreenRope website. We primarily want to keep all of our traffic on our current site, so there was a bit of confusion to begin with.
  • GreenRope is heavy on the marketing side of things (sales leads, conversions, etc...) which is excellent, but a bit overwhelming when we just wanted to get in and get started with a simple email drip campaign with some email tracking. We're leaning, though, and appreciate GreenRope's continued efforts to bring us up to speed on the marketing stuff.

Our uses kept running into bugs that stopped them from doing simple things like creating a contact or selecting an item from a custom drop list which is required to save the contact or item. This of course is after time was spent filling out all the previous data which gets lost when you cannot complete the form. This is just one example of many.

It does everything I need when I'm at my computer. I would just like to have greater functionality in the iphone app. I have discussed with Greenrope my issues and they appear to be working on these issues

Right from the beginning, GreenRope's staff have been extremely helpful with getting us setup and answering all of our questions. In addition to chat support, the documentation provided within GreenRope itself is detailed and easily accessible. GreenRope is also really good about letting you know that they are available - and how to contact them. My questions/requests are answered quickly, every time.

If you are starting a business and want a free app or nearly free app that can grow with you....then apptivo could be for you. However if you grow faster than them then you will be quickly seeking alternatives

I think there are some cheat sheets and best practises lists that could be created that would save a business a lot of time and frustration. BUT, even as it is, the frustrations and challenges disappear as things start working. I am going to be offering up a few of the tricks I have learned to the team at GreenRope to share with other users because when customers offer valuable work arounds that they find helpful to others, we accomplish a few things. The coders get an idea of things that aren't working quite as expected so they can look into fixes, other customers get benefit and we all win

Alternatives Considered

Sellsy is the app that comes closest in terms of feature set. It is a lot more expensive but even with its flaws and terrible Google integration is still is a measurably better product in terms of taking care of your business. Unfortunately for Apptivo it tries to do everything with its 40+ apps but not one of those apps succeed in being great when compared to the competition. The competition in all cases are much more expensive than Apptivo but it is a case of you get what you pay for.

Solve360 is probably the best Google integrated crm product on the market today however it is not a business management platform. Work[etc] is another great platform with excellent Google integration but doesn't do stock management or multi-currency. Also way over-priced!

At the time I selected GreenRope for our business, Hatchbuck wasn't an option but Infusionsoft and HubSpot were. Since then, I have included Hatchbuck in my analyses for customers who are selecting new CRM/Marketing Automation software. Greenrope has all the functionality that Infusionsoft has. Sure, there are minor differences where each offers some things the other doesn't, but those things are in the "what else does it do" category for each software. The big deliverables in the two software are the same. For me, it mattered that Greenrope did not require the upfront fees that Infusionsoft requires. Some organizations may need all the upfront support that's delivered in the Infusionsoft setup, but for those who can do their own data imports and setups, Infusionsoft didn't offer the "out" from that up-front cost. Greenrope was fast and easy to get into, there was extra support available for companies that needed to buy some hours, but you didn't have to spend that money if you didn't need it. Infusionsoft's GUI is 'sexier' than Greenrope's, but Greenrope keeps making improvements to the GUI, and I find it very easy to navigate and use. I also often train new employees or client employees how to use Greenrope. I find it very easy to teach and new users get up to speed quickly.

Return on Investment

  • It cost us money.
  • We lost a few hundred man hours on this. We stuck with them for a while based upon the promises received and the excellent speed at which support would reply to concerns. However fixes to the big issues still have not arrived a year later.
