Apricot by Social Solutions

I believe that Apricot is awesome to use if you are attempting to track or log client data. This system has the ability to be tailored to the needs of your program, and possibly going paperless. I do not think that it would be beneficial to use apricot to track/log financials that are not attached to clients.

Luminate CRM and Analytics

If you want a "one size fits all" aka one platform to do most things, especially if your company is advocacy or grassroots donation based, then this is a better product for you. Our business is neither but we've managed to customize it over time to fit our donor needs with the various Luminate Online tools.

  • Incredibly intuitive design that is very easy to use and understand even to non-techy people
  • Very easy to create your own forms to best fit your actual need
  • Very easy to pull data and reporting for funders and monthly updates to the team

Cons

Apricot by Social Solutions

  • We believe Apricot could offer secure web forms beyond the restricted 'Tier 1' allowance. In other words, currently, secure web forms are only available as options for Tier 1 records. This means we cannot have live registration for Tier 2 records, which is very restrictive, seeing as we would like to capture data as clients sign in at events or trainings we have.
  • We would like to see a feature similar to what TurboTax presents on its site that prompts you with questions to better generate the next step. In an Apricot case, it would generate these prompts to help us build our reports. We have the criteria we're looking to fulfill, we just need to better reproduce it in the sections on the Apricot report and this type of functionality would help.

Luminate CRM and Analytics

  • Email campaigns - as much as we like and use them, Luminate Online's admin experience is not as new and sleek as other email marketing software. Unlike Mailchimp and Emma, you have to do everything in a wysiwyg template, which relies heavily on the tech experience of the admin user. In a nonprofit setting such users are harder to come by.
  • Usability for admins. Many of our admins complain about the clunkiness of the program compared to other systems they use. So while they prefer having all tools "under one umbrella" they'd prefer for these tools to be more optimized in a modern workplace.
  • Any additional services get very expensive. We've been with LO for awhile so overtime have gotten more customized parts of it that make our digital marketing more relevant (such as mobile friendly templates). But these did not come cheap and all additional services not contracted are often expensive. At times we've been hit with huge fees without any warning from our customer success reps.

I went to the Summit a few weeks ago to learn about the future expansion and vision of Social Solutions. I already been with Apricot for 5 years and researched other products I still come back to Apricot and where it can grow with us.

I was not personally involved in choosing Apricot but know that our ED spent 2 years researching, comparing, and trying other software before choosing Apricot. I have used Cap60 in the past and did not feel that it was able to meet the needs of every program operated under that particular Community Action Agency's umbrella of services.

Luminate CRM and Analytics

Of the databases I have used, Luminate CRM is my least favorite. However, it is powerful and large enough to function adequately for a large nonprofit; I couldn't say the same for some of Blackbaud's smaller products. We definitely need the full Luminate Suite (Luminate Online, Team Raiser, etc.,) to make it work, though - and we're constantly disappointed by the clumsiness of the way all the pieces interact.

Apricot by Social Solutions

  • Apricot by Social Solutions has streamlined communication within our organization. Within the system you can set up emails to be sent when certain conditions are met. We use these email alerts to tell our case managers when they have been assigned a client, to tell supervisors when documents need to be signed, to let our finance department know when clients under specific grants have entered or left a program, etc. In 9 months of partial implementation, over 6,000 emails have been sent through Apricot.
  • Apricot by Social Solutions has given us a real picture of how clients interact with our programs. For example, we thought that our Clothing & Household Goods program primarily served the same clients who come for breakfast or lunch. We've discovered that is not the case, and we meet unique clients through that program.
  • Apricot by Social Solutions has improved our follow up with clients. For example, in our Employment Program, we should be following up with clients 30, 60, and 90 days after they are placed in a job. We have set up a report through Apricot that tells staff which clients have hit the 30, 60, and 90 days with their contact information right in the report.

  • Positive: A nice and fairly easy to use event calendar.
  • Positive: Year of reports of email marketing trends from various campaigns.
  • Negative: Large fees for anything outside of the contract (whether we were aware of it or not).
