APSIS Pro

Works well, relatively easy to use - but lacks some up-to-date and modern features as well as look and feel. The support provided is OK but not world class. It is too bad as APSIS as a company is quite good at inspiring and providing insights into trends in email marketing.

I would really recommend Emma to Enterprise clients more than anything. In most cases, there are other platforms that are easier and more cost effective for brands looking to begin or bolster email efforts. If you are an enterprise client that has multi-location businesses, then this is going to be a great fit for you.

Pros

APSIS Pro

  • We have a pre-designed template and pre-build elements and thus it is quite easy to compose nice looking newsletters.
  • Doing split-tests on subject, clicks etc. is quite easy and requires no tech help.
  • Imporing new contacts and adding to the list is straight forward.

Emma

  • Their templates are easy to edit and manipulate, we have a lot of 'non-designers' that are mostly code-monkeys, and it makes their job easier when they have to proverbially wear multiple hats.
  • Emma has the ability to test multiple subject lines – you can see where you get the most clicks. That makes our clients happy and targets our business.
  • It's competitive with MailChimp – a program we've been running into issues with. It's nice that there's other software out there we can jump to.

Cons

APSIS Pro

  • The user interface is not good. Too much scrolling and too many menues to navigate. Half of the pages are updated to a "new" look with the rest still being the (really) old design. This badly needs a make-over.
  • There is no one-click "send reminder to those who did not open". To send reminders, it is nescessary to build a filter a do a new send using the filter. Such a simple and often repeated task should be automated.
  • It is not possible to add a "Why did you leave us?"-page for opt-outs... Really misses this.
  • The statistics are too limited and to difficult to use - mostly due to the UI design as described above.

  • One room-for-improvement area I've encountered is related to custom template design. In addition to "locking" certain portions of templates our master admin account pushes out, from a branding perspective, I'd like to "lock" certain font styles for use (or not) in my templates. I talked with Emma's support team about this, and it seemed like something that might be possible in the future.
  • Sometimes I can't remember where to find the Image and Document assets, because you have to be in a certain tab to see their links as an option. I'm not sure what the solution for this is, but not having those as easily accessible as most everything else has been a pain point. (Not a big one, just an inconvenience sometimes.)

While every WYSIWYG software will experience glitches, Emma handles them well. Keep in mind they rarely happen, but they do, it can be of annoyance. Regardless, Emma allows my organization to create seamless email campaigns using fresh data. Emma makes coming up with strategic decisions very easy. The list segmentation that Emma feature allows us to easily manage a large list without issues. Overall, Emma is extremely usable with nearly no learning curve!

I hate that to get support I have to submit a question to a public forum and wait for a response. I just want the ability for a quick live chat to answer my simple help questions quickly or at the very least submit a ticket via email and get a status update.

APSIS Pro

MailChimp offers more flexibilty but also seems a bit more complicated to use. We did not use it long enough to really get an idea of the positive and negative.

Our internal competitors are the individual email platforms our stores have signed up for. In general, they need to take our HTML and upload it themselves, making Constant Contact and MailChimp very cumbersome. Emma, on the other hand, allows us to take charge of that. Users just simply use the interface to update text fields as needed

  • We are still trying to figure out how to use this medium for sales. We have had some success with Black Monday sales, but in general we do not have much response to our emails.
  • We have increases our visibility with our customers by making sure to land in their mailbox regulary with nice looking messages.

  • Because of their engaging email messaging we've been enlightened to the importance and effectiveness of email marketing. We first chose the software because we simply needed a tool to replace an outdated email tool in our CMS years ago. Now we're embarking into offering full digital marketing campaigns and Emma has enabled us to add email marketing to our list of services.
  • 3 of our team members attended Emma's marketing conference last year, Marketing United, and are now fully invested in offering digital marketing services to our clients.
  • From a financial standpoint, our agency account gives us the opportunity to make a profit on the sub-accounts we sell.
