Aptean Encompix ERP vs. Exact Globe+

If an organization often makes standard products and purchases standard material for those products, then this ERP suits well for such scenarios, where there is a standard list of material - which can be used to build Item Master records in Encompix. And it's well suited for companies which do keep inventory / stock. Not well suited if the organization doesn't have item masters, and every product is a custom product.

Exact Global is extensively used at EWS as a strategic tool of importance for managing our core Financial processes like Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger accounts, Financial entries, Transactions etc. It is a critical tool for EWS and integrated with our ERP for a seamless operations of financial processes in the enterprise

• Accounting and milestone payments are easy to use
• Purchases are very detailed, and we can see when any line item has been ordered or received

• Exact offers a large range of user defined fields, which is especially useful once you've built a base on the system and need to customize certain aspects. Just last week we added the ability to track customer training by model using custom UDFs.
• Engineering bills of material are tracked in Exact and the engineering BOM module is pretty intuitive and easy to use. Modification and drill down/up is not difficult once you figure out he basics.
• Inventory control is fairly simple and offers a lot of information and options to track different kinds of products. We use bulk and each UOMs primarily, but others are used regularly depending on application.

• Scheduling module - we had initially expected this ERP system to handle the scheduling part for us, but it is not easy to do customization to the extent needed for us.
• Technical or the implementation team support can be improved, as it is not up to the standard.
• Not well suited for Engineer to Order / custom product manufacturing companies.

Materials module in Encompix ERP is more robust over the Abas ERP. We had previously used Abas before Encompix, and the reports are more robust in Encompix, and custom reports were possible. Bill of Materials can be uploaded in Encompix, unlike Abas. Item Masters feature was available. Vendor cross reference and performance tracking are some good features as well.

I've used other ERP systems in large organizations, one custom and one SAP. SAP is a very powerful suite of software, but comes at a price point that is unobtainable for many smaller companies. Exact is more realistic and accessible for smaller companies that are not necessarily global commodities, but instead smaller manufacturers in niche markets. I haven't had the opportunity to review many other options in this size range.
