I would not recommend this product to anyone. This product is hard to manage, requires development in house which becomes expensive. The tool itself is extremely expensive for the features it delivers. And ultimately, the sales "bait and Switch" will occur on you, which will require you to buy more licenses or add-ins that were not planned on to get the desired feature set.

ConnectWise Sell

ConnectWise Sell is great for Managed Service Providers and smaller IT shops who primarily do computer repairs and maintenance. The tool is generally good at everything it does, but I would not recommend using it for a company that sells IT equipment as its primary business. Quotes take a relatively large amount of time to build in order to get them looking good for the end user.

Pros

  • Force.com native is very important to us - for reporting, administration, integration, and uptime.
  • 70% of our business is back to base, so having customer owned assets fall under the same inclusion rules as items in the cart is critical.
  • Variable bundles allow us to build fewer bundles.

  • ConnectWise Sell does an excellent job of neatly presenting quotes and proposals to the end user. There are multiple different options for the look and function of the quotes. There are also options for custom quote templates that are designed directly for your organization.
  • ConnectWise Sell does a reasonably good job of connecting to and working with Autotask. It took our organization about 6 months to figure out the correct way to flow from quote to invoice with our systems. Sell will easily pull in your customer information from Autotask into a quote and allow you to send the quote direct from your email.

Cons

  • I think Apttus is to heavily reliant on Salesforce and that you should have the option to create an account without a SF number
  • Considering that it's a CRM, I think the interface could stand to be a bit more reader friendly and geared towards legal users as opposed to Sales
  • Configurations and data loads are very cumbersome and I wish that you didn't need a Salesforce administrator to create customizations.
  • When creating new contract clauses for an account, many were duplicative because that function is very sensitive and would duplicate at the slightest unintentional flinch of the mouse.

We are in our 4th year with Quosal and fully expect to renew again and again. With their development of additional features such as the Order Porter, Visual Quoting and others, we see the adoption rates continuing to rise while making our time to quoted shorter and shorter. Quosal and ConnecWise's vision of automated quoting is an exciting frontier that we are very happy to be a part of

It's an 9. Not a 10. No software package is a 10. None!! If a software package was a ten then it wouldn't ever be updated. Quosal has its flaws like everything else but it's not bad at all.

Tier1/tier 2 support can only handle native functionality. Customizations have to be escalated to developers which aren’t included in the support program.

I go ahead and copy the people I directly worked with on implementation for assistance. I would rate them an 8 for support assistance.

We had to understand how objects worked to figure out how to structure our data.

I would have liked more in-depth training but it would have been an additional cost

Be iterative. Take the opportunity to build a catalog based on how Apttus works well. Learn the tool yourself or use an SI. Take the time to build a configuration / pricing migration tool with X-Author for Excel or roll your own. Stick with OOTB Apttus as any customization will cost you every time a new version is released

Alternatives Considered

We used QuoteWerks which did not integrate well with Salesforce. It had no approval process and the price book lived on each person's computer. If they did not connect to the server they were quoting old pricing. It allowed them to create products on the fly.

Infusionsoft - It is made more for an internet store, and it never answered our needs for effective quoting.Microsoft Excel - It was nice to create algorithms for speedy quotes but moving around products, or sharing quotes with co-workers was hard. Google Sheets did not come close to the preference we wanted for effective quoting as it is more limited than Excel. It was great for sharing, but lost features Excel did better.Adobe Acrobat - It was time-consuming to update products, and sometimes it was buggy. But the real problem with customers was not everyone could open the quote. Their computers were not update with such old versions of Adobe we gave up on this as a solution.

Quosal was great at maintaining excessive document quantities, housing over a decade of quoting documents, both large and complicated or single line, low volume quotes. I could scale back and reference information archived with ease and speed.

  • Previously we were using spreadsheets to create the quotes, and turn around time could be up to two days for a quote. We have completely killed that in our organization, now time to quote is one hour to three hours.
  • We currently have 7 licenses and we feel like the licensing model should be different for those who quote vs. the sales reps who are just receiving the quotes from inside sales. Be careful on how many licenses you get.
  • We see a huge impact in our database of products, we are tracking more than we ever have before and it makes it easy for us to make sure we have the correct data in ConnectWise on what we are selling the most of and from whom.
