I would not recommend this product to anyone. This product is hard to manage, requires development in house which becomes expensive. The tool itself is extremely expensive for the features it delivers. And ultimately, the sales "bait and Switch" will occur on you, which will require you to buy more licenses or add-ins that were not planned on to get the desired feature set.

Coupa

Our main goals were to drive value by focusing on adoption by all, increased visibility in spend, and compliance. Coupa is very easy to use and does not feel like an ERP. Our end users like the easy to use, intuitive interface. A side benefit that we have experienced is that we were able to get rid of a shadow system that our IT department was using to track spending. They are able to use Coupa to track committed and actual spend and reconcile it their budgets and forecasts.

  • Apttus CPQ handles complex pricing rules with ease. We have tiered pricing, user based pricing, and quantity pricing discounts. Apttus CPQ allows us to easily provide correct pricing based on attributes of the sales rep, the customer and the product.
  • Apttus CPQ administration is easy compared to similar products. As a product available on the Force.com platform, we were able to cross train our Salesforce administrators and take on the additional administrative overhead without significantly increasing our sales operations team size.
  • Apttus CPQ is flexible. We are able to rapidly test and deploy new pricing models and offers using the Apttus model.

Coupa

  • Ease of use. No IT support is needed. As the procurement manager, I'm also the Coupa administrator. I have the ability to configure, correct, manipulate, etc., the system to our needs.
  • No on-going training. The system, both P2P and Sourcing are incredibly intuitive. Many SAAS modules change dramatically with each new version and require additional training. Coupa does a great job of putting updated, searchable documents on-line to augment any additional training employees may need.
  • Rock solid stability. Coupa is never down, they far exceed the SLAs we have in place with them. I've never had a catastrophic failure or outage with them.
  • SOX compliancy. Need I say more? My internal and external audit teams have given the tool more than a passing grade.
  • Thought leadership. The tool is constantly evolving to live up to the high expectations of its user base. The Coupa Community has skin-in-the-game and Coupa listens to our needs/wants as well as adding their own cutting edge touches to the tool.

  • As a SAAS solution with a large amount of R&D being invested, there is functionality that is becoming standard in the platform that previously would have required some customer customization. The incorporation of the standard functionality will require regression testing and migration off of custom code. In the long term this is a positive, but in the short term does create some overhead with testing.

Coupa

  • Implementation using a third-party consultant was a mistake. Maybe we had the wrong consultants assigned to us but make sure you understand who is doing the implementation. Implementation is costly but extremely important.
  • We often can have small issues with approval chains and they are hard to figure out. If there was more information on how to understand approval chains without reaching out to support, it would help.

Tier1/tier 2 support can only handle native functionality. Customizations have to be escalated to developers which aren’t included in the support program.

I go ahead and copy the people I directly worked with on implementation for assistance. I would rate them an 8 for support assistance.

Be iterative. Take the opportunity to build a catalog based on how Apttus works well. Learn the tool yourself or use an SI. Take the time to build a configuration / pricing migration tool with X-Author for Excel or roll your own. Stick with OOTB Apttus as any customization will cost you every time a new version is released

At the time of selection, we assessed other configuration tools to include Selectica and Big Machine. We decided on Apttus because of it configuration flexibility and the fact that it was built on the Salesforce.com platform. That allowed us to configure and customize for our specific use case. It also gave us other capabilities such as integration to the CRM and ability to generate reports and dashboards

We evaluated Ariba, Basware. We chose Coupa for its cost effectiveness, richness of features, functionality and value for money. Coupa customer service is also very good. Coupa is investing time and effort to bring in more features and constantly improving its products. Some of our suppliers and customers are already using coupa.

  • I cannot speak to lead conversion because we used it solely for the CRM component. I did like the reporting functionality, which was very customizable, so if I wanted to know how many customers agreements were terminating 3 months out, I could run a report for that. This made our lives much better.

  • Coupa is an extension of our ERP. It has provided value by delivering visibility and transparency in our spend management.
  • The adoption by all is a key deliverable for us. In order to take advantage of the visibility, we need all spend under management in Coupa. We are moving in this direction with very positive feedback from our end users.
  • We will drive savings by being able to negotiate with our suppliers with the analytics that Coupa provides. Coupa allows us to track supplier performance and manage the relationship in real time.
