Apttus

For any organization that runs standard or non-standard sales cycles Apttus is a great fit. If you're an organization that requires heavy involvement for approvals from finance, legal or executives, having Apttus CPQ streamlines your process and ensures that you are able to deliver both accurate and timely quotes as well contracts. Additionally, partnering with Apttus will help you identify and shore up gaps in your current process.

Sage CRM

Having spent a long time now in the software industry, there is no one size fits all I have learnt, but having said that, SAGE CRM is a very adaptable and easily customised product that it can fit in a variety of situations and markets. The key in my view is ensuring that the software is a good match and sometimes the look and feel is important in gaining ownership. Sales and Marketing Departments find it easy to use as do Help Desk and it is a strong contender in many projects we are involved with.

Pros

  • Their solution completely solved our problems
  • They have an incredible team
  • Very easy to work with
Matt Amundson profile photo
  • Great value for what Sage CRM provides.
  • It provides either onpremise or cloud based options which is still important with some clients.
  • It links with ERP solutions that the client may already have especially other Sage products.

Cons

  • I think Apttus is to heavily reliant on Salesforce and that you should have the option to create an account without a SF number
  • Considering that it's a CRM, I think the interface could stand to be a bit more reader friendly and geared towards legal users as opposed to Sales
  • Configurations and data loads are very cumbersome and I wish that you didn't need a Salesforce administrator to create customizations.
  • When creating new contract clauses for an account, many were duplicative because that function is very sensitive and would duplicate at the slightest unintentional flinch of the mouse.

  • When compared to other products such as Salesforce it doesn't compare.
  • Sage CRM doesn't have the extensive app store that other CRM products have.
  • Implementing the on-premise version can be difficult depending on the host database.

There are really no other words to say, it is a very easy to use application that is more straightforward and has provided better results with the bulk of features that appeal to a very broad amount of users. There may be other CRM platforms out there that are more prevalent, but I have found them to be much more clunky and less intuitive than Sage CRM.

Sage works very quickly based on the network you are using it on. It is internet based so if your network is slow, it will perform slowly. Reports seem to run reasonably fast, if there is too much information it is trying to populate that could slow it down a little. When Sage CRM is integrated with a Sage ERP product it doesn't tend to slow down either system at all

Support

Apttus8.0
Based on 2 answers
Tier1/tier 2 support can only handle native functionality. Customizations have to be escalated to developers which aren’t included in the support program.

I go ahead and copy the people I directly worked with on implementation for assistance. I would rate them an 8 for support assistance.

Most training would come after a upgrade. Otherwise we would self teach new employees. Training was with a Sage Software partner SWK technologies.

We attended 5 hours worth of webinars early on.

We had to understand how objects worked to figure out how to structure our data.

I would have liked more in-depth training but it would have been an additional cost

Implementation

Be iterative. Take the opportunity to build a catalog based on how Apttus works well. Learn the tool yourself or use an SI. Take the time to build a configuration / pricing migration tool with X-Author for Excel or roll your own. Stick with OOTB Apttus as any customization will cost you every time a new version is released

The implementation and upgrades were rather quick and straight forward.Attempting to link Sage CRM with Sage 100 ERP however was a nightmare and will be avoided by us in the future due to numerous issues.

Alternatives Considered

I cannot recall the names of one other CRM that we reviewed. Apttus won because Upside went to an enterprise model and we no longer met their standards. Selectica was priced high if I can recall correctly and I think they did not have the Salesforce component at the time.

I have a preference for Salesforce.com because of the app exchange that they have. Sage CRM is more on par with Oracle CRM and NetSuite CRM+. Oracle CRM is the most similar with the dual options of on-premise and cloud based solutions. I am mostly working with Salesforce.com clients presently.

Return on Investment

  • Generated more than 12,000 quotes since we installed 3 years ago. Related to >164MM in deal bookings.
  • Training is not straight-forward as each instance is different. So, having a tools ops person to understand the deep offering is important.

  • Compared to what other clients have used, Sage CRM increased productivity of the sales team.
  • The adoption of a new CRM system was a lot quicker with Sage CRM than I have seen with other products.
  • It has helped clients provide better customer service
