Articulate 360

If you are looking to create a piece of elearning content, or a complete elearning solution, with responsive sites and design, then this is probably the best tool you could choose at the current time. There is also the bonus of the full library.I feel this is best suited for:
  • Games
  • Branching scenarios
  • Interactive video
  • Rotating models
  • Infographics
If you are looking to save money and simply create a simple presentation, I'd suggest an older version, or to simply stick with Powerpoint.

Their learning system is unmatched - it really has most of the features we required in our environment which is heavily instructor led as well as online. If they can get their support lined out to provide timely support they will be the leader in this area and I would be able to give them a 10

Pros

  • Expands on the offering, creating an overall suite of features and potential. For example, the content library lets you grab media where you needn't worry about royalties and searching endlessly.
  • Allows for constant upgrades and improves to each component of the software. This is a growing suite and updates are released regularly.
  • Unlocks potential for greater and more in-depth solutions, rather than standalone content. For example, object collision allows for game creation.
  • Addresses QA issues, with the fantastic review feature. You can see exactly what and when the reviewer is experiencing issues.

  • Learning: The learning assignment tool does a great job at both one off assignments and dynamic assignments that can be based on different Organization Units.
  • System: The system is very customizable which is great for allowing it to fit within your organization. It does make it a more complex system to manage that something that is out of the box but if your organization is complex, this is definitely a pro. You can assign custom fields in most places in the system too.
  • System: Security is robust and allows for many different permissions that can be assigned to groups then people can be added to groups either as a person or by an organization unit or by custom fields.
  • Learning: It handles instructor led training very well which is something many other LMS's do not do at all. In our organization we have many of these every year that we need to track for CPE (Continuing Professional Education) purposes.
  • System: Web service (API) or FTP interfaces are available for automating the data flow in and out of Cornerstone.
  • System: Custom Reporting works very well and allows a report writer to create and share reports to users as needed. I use the custom reports 100% over the standard reports to get exactly what I need to the correct users.
  • System: Customizable emails can be configured at the system level as well as at the learning object level or performance task level as needed. It is recommend for easy of administration to utilize the system level as much as possible for any types of future changes (such as logo or wording changes needed).
  • Performance: Performance tasks are very configurable to go out to who you need them do and shut down on a schedule.
  • Performance: The ability to bring in last years goals so you can rate them as well as a next year goal planning is a great feature.
  • System: Online help is very robust and very thorough.
  • Releases: Quarterly releases are very well managed with many details in the release notes and full cycle to complete testing in a Stage system.

Cons

  • It's buggy at times. It has constant updates though. I've personally never encountered a wall or situation in which I would say, "I need to find another program," the issues I have faced are small and very easily worked around. At times some of the logic to the building doesn't make sense but that's just getting familiar with their terminology and methodology for accomplishing a goal.
  • Their support service only has an online communication method. If you're having an issue it's just a live chat option. It would be nice to be able to pick up the phone and have someone provide immediate service or at least guide me.

  • The administrator interface is not at all intuitive. It takes many hours to fully comprehend how to function as an admin.
  • The ingestion of users from your HRIS or Active Directory is difficult and time consuming. It took us 8 months to figure out the intricacies of how users are ingested into the system.
  • While most of the support team is nice and friendly, I've come across a few that were condescending and rude. Also, if you want immediate answers, you must call. It seems that their email help team takes a long time to respond.

Cornerstone OnDemand in general has very good usability. It is easy for end users to start using it. We don`t need to provide any trainings for learners or line managers. At maximum we can create one pager with general information. It is easy to search trainings. You don’t need to know the ID or full name of training.

It’s surprisingly slow for a SAAS product. When you click on links, there’s no hourglass or waiting indicator, so it’s difficult to tell if the system is going to respond.

They are doing a great job of creating new features and fixing anything that is broken. However, sometimes you have to wait until the next quarterly update to get something fixed. I also feel like their Global Product Support team could be better. Perhaps hiring additional people would help.

Dig deep on what your current processes are and how they match up to Cornerstone OnDemand functionality. It's not that the Cornerstone OnDemand is bad, it just the amount of work it requires you to do to get your current data to fit into their system.

Alternatives Considered

I've used many other authoring tools in the past and by far, Articulate 360 is the most intuitive, easiest to use tool out there. The time needed to ramp up on the tool after training is minimal comparatively with the other tools I've used.

Of course we liked the system a lot but speaking to three of their clients helped us understand that Cornerstone OnDemand is the system for us. There isn't anything more convincing than getting a review from existing long-term clients.By the way, everything these references told me over the phone was correct.
