Articulate 360

In the case of software launches for applications that have typical workflows, Articulate 360 is great to create on demand e-learning. You can include live demos, videos, self-paced presentations, knowledge checks, etc... You can also record scoring and return that information to your LMS. this is great where there might be a level of compliance checking in your organization. When mastered, it is also possible to create simulations within the modules as well. The ability to branch and lead the end user in different paths is a great strength as well.Articulate 360 is less suited for more passive learning material. If the need is for a demo only, other tools to record screen capture and creating videos might be more appropriate. However if it needs to be used within your LMS system, you could still use Articulate to output the module. For simple cases, though, Articulate might be overkill for what you need.

Their learning system is unmatched - it really has most of the features we required in our environment which is heavily instructor led as well as online. If they can get their support lined out to provide timely support they will be the leader in this area and I would be able to give them a 10.

Pros

  • Expands on the offering, creating an overall suite of features and potential. For example, the content library lets you grab media where you needn't worry about royalties and searching endlessly.
  • Allows for constant upgrades and improves to each component of the software. This is a growing suite and updates are released regularly.
  • Unlocks potential for greater and more in-depth solutions, rather than standalone content. For example, object collision allows for game creation.
  • Addresses QA issues, with the fantastic review feature. You can see exactly what and when the reviewer is experiencing issues.

  • Cornerstone Learning is very powerful and flexible. I have now administered 2 other Learning Management Systems for my organization and Cornerstone is by far the easiest to manage. I haven't run into a learning challenge that I couldn't solve with the Cornerstone Learning system and this system is more intuitive and easy to administer than previous systems. I found myself doing a lot of the work for others in previous systems, however, this system has the capability to easily distribute permissions and roles to Learning Partners throughout the organization to free my time up for more development and testing of new functions for the training organization.
  • Cornerstone Reporting is very easy to use and provides the ability for me to create reporting and share out to various Managers and Departments within the organization and has the flexibility to constrain permissions, so that only various areas see what they need to see. This has been a huge time saver in our organization.
  • Cornerstone has excellent online and inline help which is great when training additional administrators throughout the system. I believe that Cornerstone sets the standard in this area and is truly a Learning organization. You can click Help from any page you are on in Cornerstone and helpful how to videos and documentation immediately pops up to explain how to use that function. It is truly an invaluable resource.

Cons

  • With the move from Flash to HTML5, there are a few bugs that still need to be worked out. But I think they'll be resolved quickly with the frequent release of updates.
  • Currently, there is only a 1-size-fits all subscription that includes all of the tools at an annual lump-sum price point. It feels a little steep if you aren't actively using all of the tools, or compared to other subscriptions with monthly fees (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud).
  • Some of the issues reported in SL2 continue to be present in SL360, but there is a clear trend towards resolving even the peskiest of these legacy issues.

  • I don't really have any complaints with this system. I always would like customer support to be more responsive and better, but this is likely due to my personal standard. Cornerstone does have better customer support than I have been used to with previous vendors.
  • Cornerstone is currently transitioning from their legacy to mobile platform and we have recently implemented, so we are having to wait on new build out and design for these mobile enhancements. Of course, as a client, I would like this tomorrow, but have been very pleased with the design and work.
  • We are integrated with the Workday HRIS and the integration between Workday and Cornerstone is a standard integration. It would be nice if this integration was more flexible, however, we did buy Cornerstone Web Services which allows us to create our own API integrations between the two systems to get data that may not have been included in the standard integration.

We still believe that Cornerstone is a Best-in-Class software solution in the LMS space. The solution is robust and reliable and the vendor provides value through their online support community and through their thought leadership offerings. Our only reason for not rating this higher is that we utilize Workday as our HRIS solution so we are compelled to evaluate its Learning suite whenever contract renewals arise.

Cornerstone OnDemand in general has very good usability. It is easy for end users to start using it. We don`t need to provide any trainings for learners or line managers. At maximum we can create one pager with general information. It is easy to search trainings. You don’t need to know the ID or full name of training.

It’s surprisingly slow for a SAAS product. When you click on links, there’s no hourglass or waiting indicator, so it’s difficult to tell if the system is going to respond.

They are doing a great job of creating new features and fixing anything that is broken. However, sometimes you have to wait until the next quarterly update to get something fixed. I also feel like their Global Product Support team could be better. Perhaps hiring additional people would help.

Dig deep on what your current processes are and how they match up to Cornerstone OnDemand functionality. It's not that the Cornerstone OnDemand is bad, it just the amount of work it requires you to do to get your current data to fit into their system.

Alternatives Considered

Articulate 360 takes a slightly different approach to multi-device support compared to other authoring tools. Instead of true responsive design, which requires at least twice as much time to develop, it strikes a balance with the addition of the responsive player. Although having a single layout for every device may not meet all needs, it helps to make development as efficient as possible while minimizing overall time/effort for turnaround. Where Articulate 360 really outperforms the competition is the inclusion of multiple tools in a single ecosystem—this allows for deeper integration between tools.

Cornerstone OnDemand provides a full-service HRD system. This was a big plus. AccordLMS has a simpler interface, but seemed to lack in the ability to maintain classrooms in multiple locations. Cornerstone OnDemand is a cloud-based, hosted system. A hosted system was important to us for resource management reasons. Although UnivseritySite offered a hosted version, the overall tools were not adequate. Video delivery was poor in UniversitySite, but strong in Cornerstone OnDemand. AccordLMS didn't provide a hosted solution.

Return on Investment

  • We have been able to turn out content more quickly.
  • We have been able to share with subject matter experts while building courses.
  • We have been able to create more interactive learning and increase knowledge retention.

  • One of the main reasons we switched to Cornerstone OnDemand was to deliver video training seamlessly. Cornerstone OnDemand has been able to support most of the video training we do. This has allowed us a single source delivery point, lowering the costs of having multiple delivery providers for SCORM and non-SCORM compliant content.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand is far more difficult to administer for our trainers. This has taken up more time from training operations. Cornerstone OnDemand takes approximately 20% more effort to maintain, enroll, and communicate with our users and regional support staff across our nine offices.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand has a robust reporting system that is too difficult to use. We spend 65% more time getting reporting than we did with our previous LMS.
