I can't imagine being able to do my job and do it well without Articulate 360. I am able to create simple linear training courses and complex branching courses with ease. Some of the greatest training courses involve a "choose your own adventure" feel with many branches and the outcome is based upon the points earned through the course. The better decisions, the better the outcome. Importing from PowerPoint is easy. The content library that comes with 360 is very helpful. Images are crystal clear, high-resolution, and able to be used with any use. No need for me to have subscriptions to other content services anymore. I love how easy it is now to create a video background with the content library included in 360.

Cornerstone OnDemand

Tracking online learning completion for compliance or other reasons is easy within Cornerstone. Performance reviews are easy to set up and manage from the system as well. Searching for training can sometimes be difficult. Users do not know what types of subjects are available and can be confused as to how they can find a course.

Pros

Articulate 360

  • Articulate 360 has lots of options: Rise is for simple, HTML-based course content delivery. Storyline is an animation/interactive eLearning designer that is robust yet easy to learn.
  • It totally simplifies the review process. When I want to have my boss look at a course I made, I create the Articulate Review link and he can make comments at any point in the course for suggestions/corrections, and the program takes a picture of where he is looking so I know exactly what he is talking about. I can also comment back.
  • The content library is high quality and professional. You can search images of people, backgrounds for Storyline projects, or entire project templates that you just plug your content into. It allows you to create content really fast and good looking.

  • Custom email configuration allows us to communicate not only the expectations but help our team members understand what is asked of them. The ability to target messages based on completion of items allow team members to take the next steps and stay focused on their learning and development.
  • Robust reporting - coupled with experienced LMS admins with excellent analytical skills, you can track progress with a high level of accuracy.
  • We have a LinkedIn Learning integration which has been a grand slam, in less than a year we have over 10,000-course completions. I personally have developed a "thirst to learn" because of this tremendous partnership and the easy to access content on my mobile device.
  • Custom Pages, we have over 50,000+ team members without company email and we use Custom pages as a Bulletin Board to layout all details for our career development program. This keeps our team members in the loop at all times.
  • If you have a dynamic, talented team which I am fortunate to have, who is eager to use this LMS with an excellent attitude you can make a great impact on your organization and truly develop a culture of learning and accountability.

  • There could be more intuitive buttons in many places. Without a "getting started" training, it might be tough to just try and figure out how to do things in the software.
  • The software has been known to be a little buggy (all versions). It is known that you should save your work often in case it crashes.
  • I wish the the vendor would build in more integrated instruction and tips withing the interface, so you can be reminded or clued in to what you are looking for if you are not an expert yet.

  • It's an off the shelf package, so while you can add in custom fields (a big plus), it's very rigid in terms of how it is designed to be used. Not every company works in the same way, and I've found that a lot of the recruitment functionality is more suited to high level or blue chip hires, rather than seasonal or bulk hires.
  • Specific issues we are having revolve around the references functionality. We ended up having to develop something in-house, as the system doesn't let you verify referee details o relationships prior to triggering the reference request. In addition, the form for capturing referee details only requests a name and email address. As a company working with children and young adults, we need to ensure the references we obtain are professional and tie in with a person's work history.
  • The self-scheduling of interviews is a great feature, but it could be so much better. It's impossible to see what slots you have offered to someone, and it's also impossible to see what slots each recruiter has free. As such, you end up inviting people to book in an interview...only for them to discover that all the slots are already filled.
  • Notifications. Generally, this is poor in Cornerstone. If, for example, a candidate requests alternative interview dates, there is no notification that goes to the recruiter or person who initially created the invite. Likewise, if you use the email functionality within Cornerstone (which we'd like to do, as this helps to maintain a full history) when a candidate replies to the email there is no easy way of knowing they have replied unless recruiters go into the user's profile. As a high volume recruiter, this just isn't workable.
  • There are a number of other areas in the system that are 'OK' but with some development could be great. They include: Offer Letters, Editing/Deleting Data (if you want to update a field on an application form or delete a document you've uploaded...you need to put in a service request with Cornerstone), Reporting, and the overall 'bigger picture/ view' of a candidate and their application/work history.

As long as pricing stays reasonable, we will likely stay with Cornerstone for at least one more contract renewal. It would be a large task to migrate all of our content to a new system. However, the LMS landscape is diversifying with new startups that are showing some real innovation.

Once you get over the learning curve, the platform is pretty easy to use, but the learning curve itself is rather steep. Even once you are familiar with the feature set, it is easy to overlook a small setting, which can cause client-facing errors. Correcting these errors is kind of a tedious process due to having to load up the application, make your change, and re-publish the course.

Cornerstone OnDemand in general has very good usability. It is easy for end users to start using it. We don`t need to provide any trainings for learners or line managers. At maximum we can create one pager with general information. It is easy to search trainings. You don’t need to know the ID or full name of training.

Pages do not load quickly. Often times any action or selection of a box, drop down, check, pretty much ANY Javascript interaction causes the whole entire page to load/reload/start doing something in the background. This makes a nightmare for having to mass edit courses or upload ILT sessions. It's the one of the archaic web designs they use that really bugs me as an admin and makes working in the portal at times intolerable and insufferable

Their user communities are amazing. Employees answer questions very quickly and other users often answer them as well. For additional support, you can reach out to their IT support team. Support tickets are generally resolved within a day as well.

They are still working out issues with their support ticket system. I think we are now experienced enough that when we submit a ticket, there is not a quick easy answer and involves higher levels of support so it does tend to take a LONG time to get assistance. When there is a major issue, their communication is getting better but when you have a defect to report or a high level support it's going to be a while. They do have EXCELLENT online help, a very active online community where customers help customers and great user groups so there is other avenues of help

I haven't used development software other than storyline since it came out. One, because I haven't had to. This software is much more user-friendly and rapid development than previous software I have used. It also is capable of creating pretty complex items. I recommended out team get Articulate 360 because of its new additions such as Review.

Cornerstone is simply more flexible, powerful and easier to use and manage than previous Learning Management systems that we have managed. I would say this carry's over to the implementation process as well. Far easier with Cornerstone.

  • I spend less time developing courses, and more time engaging learners with Articulate 360. Not only has our development timeline shortened because of Articulate Review and Rise, but we are also putting out better, more engaging content.
  • The subscription model of Articulate 360 paid for itself almost immediately by providing access to some awesome stock content in the Content Library. We used to spend hundreds of dollars buying content that is now included in our membership to a tool we were already paying for.
  • The greatest return on our investment has come in the form of time. Stakeholders love Articulate Review. It's easy to check the progress of the course creation, see what issues have been addressed by the development team, and provide feedback-- cutting back on everyone's least favorite thing: MEETINGS.

  • One of the main reasons we switched to Cornerstone OnDemand was to deliver video training seamlessly. Cornerstone OnDemand has been able to support most of the video training we do. This has allowed us a single source delivery point, lowering the costs of having multiple delivery providers for SCORM and non-SCORM compliant content.
  • Cornerstone OnDemand is far more difficult to administer for our trainers. This has taken up more time from training operations. Cornerstone OnDemand takes approximately 20% more effort to maintain, enroll, and communicate with our users and regional support staff across our nine offices.
