I think Storyline is great for self-reviews. It is fairly easy to set up a "Drag and Drop" slide with a few questions to drag over to the right answer. You can use pictures and graphics to make it more appealing and interactive. It is also very useful for training processes. For example, if you wanted to show someone how to use a specific program, you can use screenshots and screen video captures to help show the process. I think it would be harder to use Storyline for a class lecture or just for videos. For example, if you wanted to record a physical classroom, or record a screen capture in which you are just using screen captures.

Litmos is a great tool for delivering learning to people. You can track the progress that users make - this becomes very important when there are critical mandatory trainings that you need the whole company to take, like for IT security or for GDPR. With Litmos it is easy to create learning plans for team members; I personally use learning plans for my team members' yearly goal setting and it works great.

Pros
Articulate Storyline
- The UI closely resembles the general UI that is used by Microsoft Office products. It is instantly familiar, decreasing the learning curve.
- Storyline is very powerful. If you can imagine the design, you can develop it in Storyline. The built-in templates and player skins offer a wide variety of page layouts. I particularly like how Storyline organizes slides by scenes and provides a visual map to help you see the course navigation.
- Storyline is not a resource hog. You can't simply install it on any machine, but you do not need a tricked-out rig with gaming specs to run. It runs very smoothly on an Intel i5 with 8gb of RAM with plenty of system resources available for Microsoft Office and Adobe applications to run in different windows.
- Storyline output HTML is very clean. With other authoring tools, bad Javascript and poor CSS output really had a negative impact as you had to devise workarounds and implement patches for them to work with your LMS. Storyline is the closest authoring tool that I've found "just works."

- Flexible capabilities on all devices: Many Learning Management Systems only have browser-based software, which can be limiting or too open when referring to an LMS. Litmos has iOS and Android applications that allow us to keep the system within a controlled environment.
- Easily to integrate API: Without an API, Litmos would be pretty limited for our companies scope of work. The API allows us to build our own report with the data that is important to us instead of simply relying on the LMS's build in features to meet our needs.
- Unlimited Storage: Many programs limit users on the amount of storage they can use which can be a real hiccup when trying to utilize captivating video or high-resolution photos. Litmos offers unlimited storage so uploading large files isn't even a second thought.
- Support: Through the multiple support tickets that have been issued to Litmos by our company, they are always quick to respond and relatively helpful. Their development team might take a while to implement a change, but atleast your voice is being heard.
- Uservoice: Litmos utilizes a system that allows users and administrators to actively participate in deciding what features get added next. Users can submit ideas and others will be able to vote on them.

Cons
Articulate Storyline
- Although the professional content library is available, it is still pretty easy for new users to make overly cartoonish looking pieces of training.
- The program is very heavy load so you have to have a pretty powerful computer to run it effectively.
- Final projects can be played by anyone but they can sometimes be glitchy because they are a bit heavy for users to run on their computers.

- During our use of this system, we have found that the video tagging feature is not always perfect. The search functionality does not always return the correctly tagged videos.
- The automatic speech to text processing is not always spot on with this software. Occasionally we've seen gross errors come up in the transcribed version that needed correction.

We are moving away from the standalone eCourse model, so depending upon when that shift happens, we might choose not to renew since we won't be supporting eCourses built in Articulate Storyline anymore. As long as we are still selling and supporting those eCourses, we will continue to renew the licenses we have.

For what we need in the very near future, Litmos does not offer us the required capability. Ideally, we are looking for an integrated LMS, coaching, mobile support and content creation platform. Litmos may have the LMS part covered but there are other platforms that do this better along with providing an integrated all-in-one service or at the very least support API integration with other vendors to meet our requirements.

The basics are easy to learn but you won't get really robust activities from using just the basics. However, if you can invest the time in learning how to use all of Storyline's features, you'll have tremendous learning development power at your fingertips. I do have to say, though, that there is a beautiful logic to how everything in Storyline works. Once you learn a few of the advanced features, you can learn them all because there's a similar underlying logic. The interface is also very appealing and friendly.

I've engaged with their support three times since I've owned the product. Each time, I was treated very professionally and the issues were addressed quickly. Even in situations where the problem was not due to their software, their engineers were able to assist and get the project back on track.

I love the fact that both a demonstration AND text version of the tutorials are available. Our firewall was blocking the demos until I requested my company allow them! Having the text version available still enabled me to learn from the tutorials. They are very well done and informative, and there is a tutorial for just about anything you need to learn to do with Storyline. I have always been more than satisfied with the support and training available to us for all Articulate products and I love the community!

Outside of having to dedicate a powerful enough PC for the installation and having to update Flash in our browsers there really isn't much pain involved in using Articulate. For the most part this is an easy to implement and roll-out product. The installation occurs quickly and smoothly with no additional steps needed.

I've used a few other products that are similar to Storyline. Captivate by Adobe is overly complex and frustrating at times, so that's gonna be a "no go" for most users. The addition of these new 360 applications (Rise, Review, etc) makes Articulate the top option when it comes to developing e-learning in my opinion.

Before deciding to use Litmos, we were using a platform called Lesson.ly. Lesson.ly was a good platform for a good price, but at the time they did not have the features that we required. We have also compared Litmos to another LMS called Bridge. While Bridge had a lot of very attractive features, Litmos ended up being the best fit for our organization for a few reasons. One of the main was the ability to have quiz/test questions that required an open-ended response. Open-ended questions allow us to evaluate employee's writing style, as well as get deeper into how they would respond to a complex situation when actually interacting with a customer.

It is easy to train new users and manage content. Being able to import older projects and PPT files makes it very easy to use for a lot of "moonlighters" in our department.

- We have been able to bring our training development in-house with Articulate Storyline. This has reduced the cost substantially of module development from about $120,000 annually to less than $50,000.
- It is now possible for the subject matter expert to work directly in Articulate Storyline rather than have to work with a third party and try to explain what needs to be developed as far as content.
- Articulate Storyline has a bit of a learning curve and not everyone takes to it quickly, so although the training development has been brought in-house, there is now a back-log of work for those who use the software!
