Asana has helped us stay on track from briefing with marketing partners to planning with media partners then continuing the process of kicking off creative, working through creative and finalizing approvals to then finish and send to the activation team. It's a one stop shop for our project needs. Much like with any tool, getting users to adopt it and update can be a challenge but Asana makes it easy to assign tasks to keep folks in line.

Citrix Virtual Apps (formerly XenApp)

Large enterprises with hundreds or thousands of users across many geographical locations are ideal candidate for Citrix XenApp. For medium enterprises, Citrix also offers XenApp in the cloud which is a hybrid cloud model where management servers are in the cloud and the company can host the worker servers locally or in preferred data center setup. Xenapp is also ideal for applications that requires frequent update to users and to ensure all users have access to the same version of the application from anywhere, any device, and any type of network connection.

Citrix Virtual Apps (formerly XenApp)

  • Xenapp uses a proprietary system (IMA/FMA) to more quickly deliver the screen shots, mouse clicks, etc...being done on the servers back to the users screen. This system is faster than any other app delivery programs protocols and for most users the apps are fairly seamless and run as if they were local as to speed.
  • Xenapp does require some training but overall is not overly technical in nature which helps in quickly ramping up into managing and configuring it.
  • XenApp's one main goal is to publish applications to user desktops. It does that better than any other solution on the market. There are alternate ways of doing this including simply using Microsoft's built in App delivery product but you will encounter more issues and a less than happy user experience if you try to pay less and skip adding XenApp into the mix.

  • I think there could be improved clarity around the different levels of Asana. For example, the resources available to paid accounts are not visible from the more basic accounts, so you're not aware that there are expanded options until you look in their knowledge base and see that they have additional features.
  • Exporting projects - you can export a project into a csv, but it isn't pretty. This can be challenging if you'd like to have an archived project folder for open records requests.

  • Cost - Licensing costs are not cheap.
  • Local printing is not installed by default. It took some time getting printing set up for each individual user.
  • Application compatibility is an issue when Citrix XenApp is updated, we were forced into purchasing not only an update, but also new office software.

  • Task management - Easy to view projects and their progress.
  • Time management - Easy to see what elements require time / how they interrelate and manage the project on an overall basis.

  • Clear communication - It's visually documented who is doing what at what time so that the whole project gets done.

It is very user-friendly. Takes a new employee an hour to start figuring out how the system works. That's an important factor. You don't want to encounter the issue where employees need a week to understand how the system works. For example, JIRA, I tried using it for a week and I still don't understand the complicated layout. Asana has a simple interface. Once you see it, you get it type of program.

I haven't had to use their support so I can't rate it. The fact that I haven't needed them reflects the ease of use of the product. I would recommend that any new users schedule a complete demo of the product to ensure that they are using it to it's fullest (there's a lot of useful features).

Asana

We selected ASANA based on the feature set, and ease of rollout. monday.com had very good workflow automation but we found that ASANA was quicker and easier for staff to build a task eco-system that worked for them.
Zoho Projects was a very strong contender but was much more expensive and so ASANA was the more effective choice across the board.

Other products were more cost effective, offered a better support contract, had less dependencies on third party programs, were much simpler to configure, had better documentation, and didn't require as much hardware.We chose Citrix over the alternatives, because one of our customers required the use of Citrix for the connection of Third Party vendors.

  • Allowing staff to complete time sensitive work. i.e. Accounting processing payroll, billing. Staff meeting deadlines for client production products.
  • Time installing and configuring software occurrences is externally cut down. Such as personal profile configuration of toolbar's, files, shortcuts, etc.
  • Software licenses reduced.
