Ease of use: it's easy to learn Expensify, the layout and navigation are easy to follow.
Reminders: you can set reminders for yourself to submit reports daily, weekly or monthly.
Uploading receipts: you can scan receipts on your phone or take pictures and attach.

Cons

I think there could be improved clarity around the different levels of Asana. For example, the resources available to paid accounts are not visible from the more basic accounts, so you're not aware that there are expanded options until you look in their knowledge base and see that they have additional features.
Exporting projects - you can export a project into a csv, but it isn't pretty. This can be challenging if you'd like to have an archived project folder for open records requests.

The SmartScan feature sometimes has typos. I don't know enough about the technology to even know if this is something that could be better.
The user experience is a little bit clunky when SmartScan doesn't work and you have to do things manually. Not sure a way around this, though.

Mobile + Desktop capabilities - Able to use it anywhere, anytime.
Task management - Easy to view projects and their progress.
Time management - Easy to see what elements require time / how they interrelate and manage the project on an overall basis.
Company management - Be able to see from a master dashboard perspective where each project is in its stages of completion.
Clear communication - It's visually documented who is doing what at what time so that the whole project gets done.

It is very user-friendly. Takes a new employee an hour to start figuring out how the system works. That's an important factor. You don't want to encounter the issue where employees need a week to understand how the system works. For example, JIRA, I tried using it for a week and I still don't understand the complicated layout. Asana has a simple interface. Once you see it, you get it type of program.

Mobile works great, but let's be honest. It's just a photograph. Their OCR and human turk technology works great to scan that photo and enter the proper information. The web interface is decent and allows you to work with single expenses in great detail. What's missing is the ability to mass update expenses, and this sometimes hurts, especially if you're a heavy user of the system.

I haven't had to use their support so I can't rate it. The fact that I haven't needed them reflects the ease of use of the product. I would recommend that any new users schedule a complete demo of the product to ensure that they are using it to it's fullest (there's a lot of useful features).

Our rep has been amazing. He has built custom reports for us that have been very time consuming and difficult. Our reps are also currently looking into new submission solutions for us that we are excited about. They came up with this and recommended it on their own without me complaining about an issue. They are about our success and are very excited about the product they offer.

Alternatives Considered

We selected ASANA based on the feature set, and ease of rollout. monday.com had very good workflow automation but we found that ASANA was quicker and easier for staff to build a task eco-system that worked for them.

Zoho Projects was a very strong contender but was much more expensive and so ASANA was the more effective choice across the board.

I am unaware of any competitors, but I am VERY happy with Expensify. At this point, we are not interested in shopping for any other alternatives. The only case that we have made for switching away from Expensify would be switching to an ERP (Sage Intacct) which is capable of handling expense statement coordination on its own. That said, it is unfair to compare Expensify to Sage Intacct. Furthermore, I am not sure that Sage Intacct's Expensify-like module is better than Expensify.

Asana helps improve productivity in the workspace by ensuring all team members know what projects/tasks they need to get done and by when.
Asana helps team members stay focused on what needs to get done and allows cross collaboration between departments which greatly increases overall company productivity by not having to wait around for email responses.
Asana is a good tool for project management and is easy to use, making it accessible for the whole company to use.

Time spent by the AP processors on expense reports has been reduced from eight hours per week to two hours per week.
Errors in expense reports that make it all the way to the disbursement stage have been reduced from five per months to zero.
