I would recommend this product to anyone looking for an ITSM solution. Overall the team is very easy to work with and the solution is on par with others in the market. We have no complaints about the product and we are scaling it to meet our growing needs.

Pros

  • Asana has an easy to use UI. Even if you don't get into the advanced things Asana can do for your project management, it's super easy to use and keeps even the most basic task lists organized.
  • Asana lets you view your tasks in multiple views. You can view all the tasks assigned to you or all the tasks under a certain project (i.e. HR). It also lets you customize the views within each project by due date or by other customizable priorities.
  • Asana's email to task and Google Chrome extensions make getting tasks out of your email and into Asana super easy. I forward a large percentage of my emails directly to Asana so that I can prioritize how I choose to follow up and respond to requests in my inbox.

  • The core Help Desk solution (Incident, Request, and Problem Management) is great and has all the features you would expect. Parent/Child relationships, Major Incidents, Linking, SLA Management, Approvals, and an easy to use interface
  • The process engine within the application is very powerful and you can easily create your own unique custom processes to solve your business needs/problems. The process engine is robust and one of the main reasons we chose the product.
  • Ease of customization without writing/deploying code. This was a major requirement for us and Ivanti offers the ability to customize the product without writing code. They also have a built-in migration tool that allows you to easily move changes through your environments.

Cons

  • This is not an improvement for Asana, but I wish there was a way to make team members held accountable when they do not actively participate on Asana and we do not know if they've accomplished their tasks or not if they have not logged in.

  • We are a heavy user of the product and have found many Bugs/Defects. Some are minor and have work-arounds, others are major and require their app dev team to fix via a patch. All software has bugs, Ivanti is no different, but we have found several that really impacted our planned customization.
  • Technical support is lacking with the Ivanti team. Sometimes we get a fast response and fix, other times we get nothing. We have had to escalate to our sales team on multiple occasions to get a resolution from the vendor.
  • Ability to create more robust CMDB workflows without having the ITAM product since there are some dependencies between the two that we did not know about until after we purchased.

I had a positive experience with it. It was easy to learn and my team really enjoyed collaborating it and assigning projects through this tool. If I could get all staff involved and provide incentives for all of us to use the tool, we would be probably 2x more efficient with our productivity. Everyone has their own tools to manage projects but we should stick to just one tool like Asana.

They don't fix everything, but they have certainly gone the extra mile for us. When we were frustrated with a recent change that altered our default view of every project, changing it from all projects being visible to just incomplete projects being visible, they wrote a custom script to change all of our default views back for us, so we didn't have to manually click 3,000 times (we have over a thousand projects).

Alternatives Considered

Asana is a much more seamless process, much more intuitive, and better UI. My complaint with Basecamp is that it does not seem well organized - the interface is not as intuitive and in the past, it has overwhelmed my former teammates. To the point where they do not actively login to Basecamp at all

We chose Ivanti because at the time we wanted an on-premises solution that was powerful and allow for easy customization. We are now open to a cloud model and will move our install to the cloud in the future. Overall we felt Ivanti was on par with the competition and offered a very competitive price point.
